Race-A-Cop, Don’t Go to Jail
Race-A-Cop programs are an awesome way for police departments to connect with their communities. Kids and parents love it, because they get the chance to see race-prepped police cars screaming down a race track with lights and sirens blazing. Racers love it, because they finally get to line up against Johnny Law without any fear of being arrested.
The police benefit a great deal from Race-A-Cop programs as well. It allows for a common ground between car enthusiasts and officers, creating positive interactions while also giving police a teaching platform. Topics like street racing and driving while under the influence are subjects that are hit hardest, and for good reason.
While filming at an event in Orlando, our friends at 1320video saw this Fox Body beauty – a Palmetto, Florida Police Department drag car capable of dipping into the high 9s with a naturally aspirated Ford V-8 and no nitrous. The car only hits the mid-10s in the video below, but it was, at the time, setup for the 1/8th mile.
We’re pretty impressed by this little cop-racer out of Florida, so much so, that if the Palmetto PD ditched the Lambo-doors, it would be darn near perfect.
