Top Gear Takes the 825 Horsepower Sutton for a Spin

CS800 packs about the same lb-ft of torque as a Ferrari LaFerrari.

Anytime we hear the Top Gear team giving a car high accolades, we’ve learned that it’s typically well-deserved. Especially when it comes to American cars.

Then again, any Mustang that cranks out an insane amount of power is bound to interest car guys. Like this 825-hp Sutton CS800, which the U.K.’s favorite car outlet recently took for a spin.

As noted in the Top Gear report, all that extra horsepower to the 5.0-liter V8 comes courtesy of a Whipple supercharger. The U.K.-spec Mustang also packs 640 pound-feet of torque, which writer Stephen Dobie notes is as much as a Ferrari LaFerrari.

The CS800 has a zero to 62 mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 195 miles per hour. Other upgrades include an adjustable coilover suspension, Ford Racing Recaro seats and a custom audio system.

Dobie’s best line about the CS800? “If you’re smitten with the looks and adore the idea of a monstrously powered muscle car, it’s good enough to live up to your desires.” But he’s also quick to note that if the beefed up Mustang isn’t your “cup of tea,” you might be better off with a Porsche 911. Even though it only has half the power.

The Mustang CS800 starts at 66,942 euros or roughly $78,043. Tack on another 3,500 more euros for a cabriolet version. The tested model features a number of extras like carbon fiber parts, a sports exhaust and lightweight wheels. That runs 101,735 euros, or about $120,300.

Not exactly cheap for a Mustang, but it’s still one hell of a deal compared to a LaFerrari. That’ll run you $3.5 million on the low end.
