Drift Champ Vaughn Gittin Jr. Shreds His Way Up the Hills of Goodwood

By -

While most prefer taking on the Goodwood Hillclimb in the U.K. straight-on, Team Nitto shows off how it’s really done in his Mustang RTR.

A few times every year, the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex, England comes to life with the sound of raw horsepower. One of those times is the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where many high-performance rides charge up the hillside before a captive audience in the Goodwood Hillclimb.

And then, there’s Vaughn Gittin Jr. The drifting legend was there to take his Mustang RTR up the famous hillclimb, but as Ford Europe saw, he took the path less travelled on the path all have travelled.

Right off the bat, Gittin Jr. swings his Mustang off the line with a big smokey burnout while demonstrating his mastery of drift on the narrow strip of asphalt and hay bales, leaving plenty of god rays in his wake.

Once out of the shade, he puts the hammer down in front of the grandstand, rocking his Mustang left and right through the first straightaway and corner to his next stop along the hill.

Before the Goodwood Festival of Speed sculpture, Gittin Jr. made plenty of donuts for the gathered crowd, then charged off to the midway point of the hillclimb to rock the crowds on the other side of the archway.

More drifting goodness from the Mustang RTR occurs through the S-curve as Gittin Jr. continues his charge up the hill, the shaded woods only a few seconds away.

Not even the limestone brick walls could prevent Gittin Jr. from drifting the Mustang and its green, glowing nostrils on through the lush vegetation onto the final sections of the Goodwood Hillclimb.

A magnificent finish is taken by Gittin Jr. and his Mustang RTR, capping off the drifting madness all at Goodwood bore witness to. Not a bad day was had that day, indeed.
