Mach 1 vs. Terminator: New Edge Mustang Showdown
Just how much of a performance gap is there between the two best Mustangs Ford sold in 2003 and 2004?
To this day, the 2003 to 2004 Terminator Cobras are potent machines, still ready and willing to go toe-to-toe with even the newest and hottest hardware. Moreover, it’s still likely that the Terminator will come out on top.
It’s obvious that the Terminator is a superior piece of machinery, but just how much better is it? YouTuber and Mach 1 owner Carlos, also known as Ozomeroman, met up with a Terminator and its owner to find out.
Retro-flavor Mach 1
So mighty is the Terminator that it’s easy to forget the other hot four-valve Mustang Ford offered in 2003 and 2004, the retro-flavored Mach 1. The Mach 1 is a potent pony in its own right, with 305 horsepower on tap, putting its performance in line with previous normally-aspirated Cobras. Plus, we think the shaker hood scoop is cool, too.

Incidentally, both cars are similarly modified, and both have Borla ATAK exhaust systems installed. There’s few things in the world that sound better than a four-valve mod motor with a nice exhaust (besides a Coyote or a Voodoo with an exhaust, of course). The Cobra has the full cat-back system, while the Mach 1 has just the mufflers. Both cars have the stock exhaust manifolds. The Cobra sounds just that much meaner, naturally.
Apparently, Carlos has dreamed of owning a Terminator for a long time, so when he gets the keys, he treats the car with well-deserved respect. He admits that it’s the fastest car he’s ever driven, and we don’t think there is any shame in that.
Carlos is happy to let the Cobra’s owner try out his Mach 1, too. The Mach 1 seems decidedly mellow by comparison, but it’s still a nice car and one we’d be proud to own. As much as we love the Terminator, we have a major soft spot for the Mach 1, too.
