YouTuber Makes Nearly Perfect Launch on Florida Dragstrip

By -

Having once nailed a 12.5 on the ‘strip, ThatGuyMarin sought to beat his own record one last time before moving to Texas.

We’ve all been there with our ‘Stangs. Pulling up to the light at the dragstrip, looking for our best time and that perfect launch. A few nail it on their first try, then hope they’ll be able to do it again. The rest of us keep trying and trying and trying, only to fall short.

Nico Marin aka YouTuber ThatGuyMarin, knows the struggle first-hand. Having once nailed a 12.5 on the ‘strip in his 2012 Mustang GT named Miranda, Marin sought to do better one last time before moving from south Florida to Houston, even though he said he wouldn’t go to the dragstrip again after that run.

Following a brief rainstorm, Marin drives down to the ‘strip to try to break his 12.5 time, telling himself that he was not “gonna do more than three runs.” He also promises to “ride the shit out of his clutch,” as everyone told him to “stop dumping the clutch” upon launching off the line.

His first run didn’t go too well—he doesn’t reveal the time—but he did note that his 12.5 run came when he did dump the clutch at 2,000 rpm. Marin also laments not buying and using drag radials on his Mustang, but he knows he’ll need the room for his move to Houston.

On his next run, he nails the launch off the line, bringing him close to his personal best with a 12.6. Marin also mentions how some have asked him why he doesn’t do burnouts to get more grip on the back tires, while others tell him not to do a burnout when he does. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Though he wound up doing a total of five runs and earned a 12.6, Marin decided to call it a day to focus on his upcoming move to Texas. Maybe there he shall finally break past his personal best.
