Meet Yachtstang: The Unlimited MPG Foxbody

The wind-powered Yachtstang features zero cylinders and has more environmental street cred than Tesla or any other EV!

Gas prices are getting severely out of hand. We’re sure you’re aware of that. The likes of a four-cylinder Ecoboost Mustang start to look better and better by day. However, the owner of this highly-modified Foxbody known as the “Yachtstang” has taken things to a whole new level. You think 20+ miles per gallon sounds refreshing right now? This man doesn’t even have to buy gas. Although, a nice calm day may present some issues.

According to Autoevolution, the owner of this Mustang didn’t originally intend for this to be the car’s fate. However, some form of a deal-gone-bad resulted in this classic Foxbody remaining in his possession without a title. So, despite his intentions to bring it to life as a street car, the lack of the title ensured that it would never see a set of license plates. At least, not legally. However, being industrious, he decided to make the best of a bad situation. So, instead of sulking, he came up with a solution. Convert this thing to wind power!

You’ll Need a Windy Day, but It’ll Get You Where You Need to Be

Dustin, the owner of this car, outlined the build assembly in a video on his Youtube channel, “Life of Lind.” His channel features a multitude of other cool projects, including restoring an old abandoned RV and a Camaro that had been sitting in a field for nearly two decades.

He explains that he’s been lacking a bit in content because of extreme winds. Like, really extreme. He says they’ve been subjected to 60+ mile per hour winds for weeks. Evidently, that put a bit of inspiration in his head for the Foxbody shell that was missing a title. Conveniently, he also happened to have a mast and sail assembly from a sailboat. So, with a little bit of fabrication, the Yachstang was born!

The most important question, though, is whether or not it works.

Yachstang, the wind powered Mustang foxbody

The answer is a resounding yes! Though it looks a bit sketchy, the Yachtstang undoubtedly takes the wind in its sails and rolls along without any issues. Thankfully, there’s not one of those cumbersome internal combustion engines weighing this beauty down. Though it doesn’t look to be incredibly fast, the Yachtstang certainly does what it’s designed to do.

Above all else, this epic project just proves that there’s always a solution to a bad situation. Would this have been a cooler project with a boosted Coyote swap? One could probably argue that it would be. However, that’d be a lot of money spent for a project that could never touch public roadways. Ultimately, this is a far better solution than sending it to the crusher!
