2008 Ford Mustang GT Roush 427R Sold $44,900

Roush 427R is a powerhouse pre-facelift S197 gem, and this one recently sold with only 1,200 original miles on the clock.

There are more variations of Roush Mustangs over the years than most people can keep up with. However, this variant, the Roush 427R, slides under the radar quite frequently. The pre-facelift S197 Mustang, while great, feels a bit underloved right now. It’s easy for us to understand why, though. Being crammed between the iconic new edge (especially the Terminator) and the birth of the brute force that is the Coyote 5.0 engine, we can see why many are overlooking them. However, they should not be disregarded, especially with special ones like this.

Vanguard Motor Sales recently sold this 2008 Ford Mustang Roush 427R. While we don’t know the final sale price, we know the asking price was $44,900, thanks to our friends over at Auto Evolution. If you’re thinking $44,900 is a bit much for an S197, we don’t blame you. That’s enough to put you in a fairly well-specced 2021 Mustang GT. What makes this one so special?

What is a Roush 427R?

The primary reason for the price point is the fact that this is a limited edition car that only has 1,200 original miles on it. The Roush 427R gets a complete overhaul by the iconic company that leaves no bolt unturned. The engine is a standard Mustang 4.6-liter V8. However, atop it sits a Roush roots style supercharger. Supplementing the supercharger is a Roush intake manifold setup, Roush intercooler, Roush radiator, and a Roush tune on the ECU. The result is a whopping 435 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.  To put all that power to use, Roush adds a full suspension overhaul including struts, springs, swaybars, and 18-inch wheels with high-performance Cooper tires.

Inside, you’ll find the overhaul continues to just about every interior component. A Roush billet shift knob sits atop a Roush short shifter kit and even a Roush plaque declaring that it is a 427R. That’s not all the Roush goodness, though. You’ll find the iconic name or model designation on the kick panels, floor mats, white-face gauges, and even Jack Roush’s signature embroidered into the leather bucket seats. Needless to say, you will not forget what you’re in.

Future Classic

With this low mileage and the legendary partnership between Ford and Roush, this car is sure to remain a collector’s item for decades to come. It seems to have sold in just a number of days, so perhaps the price isn’t all that lofty when you take all things into consideration. Who knows, perhaps a handful of years down the road, we’ll be seeing this car cross an auction block for a number most of us won’t make in our lifetimes. If that’s the case, congratulations are in order to the new owner, whoever they may be. As with any car of this nature, though, we can only request one thing: If you’re reading this, please drive it every once in a while! Mustangs were not made to sit. Let that pony gallop!
