How-To Tuesday: Resolving Paint Imperfections
In the automotive world, the art of painting has a sort of black-magic associated with it. Like an expert guitarist, masters of this craft have a natural talent that you can’t just immediately learn. Even the best make some mistakes though, and in the video below we will show just how to fix the two most extreme cases that you might come across: debris inside the paint itself, and runs.
It might seem crazy to take a flat edge razor to your fresh paint job, but in these two instances, you don’t really have much of a choice. Before you start, you have to make sure that your paint has completely cured, otherwise you risk doing more harm than good. Then, with increasing pressure, start to slide the razor over the imperfection. This will eventually leave a flat surface for buffing, rather than trying to cut into the imperfection, which would gouge the paint. Be patient here, as it is the most critical part. No shortcuts allowed. After that, it all comes down to how much buffing you need. Most likely with using a razor on a big imperfection, you’ll need some aggressive buffing compounds, but with some more elbow grease, you’ll never even know those imperfections were even there.
