What are you working on? My Launch Scanner will read transmission temperature provided the vehicle has a sensor in it. The 15 and newer Mustangs actually have a gauge you can toggle to for the info. But my scanner is $6000 so unfortunately I don't have any input on any of the cheaper amazone ones. I haven't had a lot of need for that feature on my end, what is going on?

I Don't Know if He is Wanting it For His 06 Stang With Auto or Not But if So I Could Find No TFT Sensor on the Trans itself or Cooler.

I want to swap out the gasket that is leaking -- or so I think, and by the way change the fluid and filter. 2006 Mustang GT Auto Trans has no dip stick and Ford has a clunky way procedure to do this right. Part of it involves knowing the trans temp. Unless.....I am wrong...which it would not surprise me at all...

Gotcha I'm Looking At Process Now. Perhaps The FORD WDS Setup Has Some Way of Getting The Temp. I Wonder if a Temp Gun Pointed at One of The Cooler Trans Lines Would Be Close Enough!

I'm Going To Give You Some Shop Manual Pdf's For Reference. I Would Surmise There are Some Alternatives To How FORD Does It But Checking Out The Factory Specs Should be Useful!

Great info links KC!

I have always hated that manufacturers have done away with the dipstick tubes. I think it's partly to try to force the DIY guys to go to the dealerships. When they did this it forced me to spend a lot of money on specialized tools to fill the transmissions. As a note and thinking back I haven't had to service any Automatics in the S197s but other Fords when missing the dipstick actually DO still have a dipstick but its very tiny on the end of the cap at the transmission and they want you to measure the level when hot while running...which is a royal pain on some vehicles while you trying not to burn yourself on a catalytic converter! I did a transmission in a Ford Raptor and it had the tiny dipstick but in a Lincoln Aviator the process was using the special tool I had to buy to fill the transmission through a fitting in the bottom of the pan, it had no dipstick.

A pyrometer will get you close enough to the temperature if you aim it at a transmission cooler line...compare the too and use the hotter temp because the cooler temp would be the return line from the transmission cooler and wouldn't be as accurate a reading.

Thanks Paul!

Good Tip On Hose Temp Hot vs Cold!

This Brought To Memory Those **** Lifetime Air Filters on The Early Ford Focus! A Little Reading And Of Course it Had To Do With **** PZEV Regs. I Had No Idea, Thanks Big Brother! While Not Directly Related To Dipstick Issue it's Still Bred By The Govt. Mucking Things Up! An Interesting FYI Short Read!

If I Had One of Those Cars Back in The Day or Mustangs Had Them a Retrofit Would Have Been a Mission For Me! Funny My 02 Supercharged Harley F-150 Is Considered PZEV Go Figure! The More They Make Things Hard To Do The More Creative Those Select Few With The Hot Rodding Spirit Find a Way Around. The Masses Just Pay The Bill. A Lot of That Going on in Everything these Days!

The Aftermarket Did Come To The Rescue on These in Time Thankfully.

Just wait....one of the disadvantages of pushing everyone into EV's is that they can just shut them off remotely. If the Gov't deems a pandemic and doesn't want you to travel, just turn them off. As you can imagine the overreach could be significant. So keeping that old '66 Mustang around is sounding more and more like a great idea!

KC,

Need your help. I am having a heck of a time finding the right crush washer or whatever type that is for the transmission fluid pan bolt which I think is Ford 6R3Z-7A010-A Pipe - Oil Drain (for the bolt). Here's a pic of what is there now (greenish washer). Everywhere I search, I can find the drain plug(bolt), not the wahser. Local part store (autozone, advance auto cant find it). Please let me know what say ye?
