Need help: 275/35/19 or 275/40/19?
I am in need of new tires again for my 2011 GT with Brembo Brake option. I would like to go just a little wider from the stock 255/40/19's and would like to go with 275's all around.
However, the big question is, 275/35/19's or 275/40/19's?
Price is not much different, but I was more concerned about fitment/rubbing. I am running the Steeda Ultralite lowering springs with the Ford Racing Black Track Wheels (identical to the Brembo wheels) on my car.
Looking at a tire comparison calculator, it appears that the 275/35/19's are 0.4 in. smaller in diameter, whereas the 275/40/19's are 0.7 in. larger in diameter, compared to the stock 255's.
Any experience, suggestions and recommendations are greatly appreciated.
BTW: I am currently running the General G-Max, which in my opinion is an excellent all-around tire, especially for daily driving. I was really happy with it...

Without measuring your tire clearance I would suggest the 35 rather than the 40 sidewall. With your car already lowered increasing the tire diameter could cause rubbing issues. The slightly smaller diameter of the 35 shouldn't make any significant difference in the way the car performs and eliminates the concern about rubbing.
However, if you've got the extra 3/8ths inch of clearance for the tire with the suspension compressed and you aren't tracking the car then go for the 40s. They will give you an even more lowered appearance and a bit better ride comfort than the 35s.

If they fit with your springs, which they probably do, I would get the 275/40. They just fill out the wheel well much more. The stock 255/40-19 already look small in the wheel well. I couldn't see going to a smaller diameter myself.

Thanks guy, I greatly appreciate the input. Without cracking out the tape measure, and by just taking a quick look at it, it appears that there is plenty of room all around the tire to accommodate the extra 0.7 in diameter, even with the wheels locked fully to either side.
Is there anyone out there currently running 275/40/19's all around with any kind of lowering springs?

Not quite what you asked for, but here are some 275/35-19 pics on SVE 19X9.5 drifts, and 275/40-19 on the same rim.. It can work on stock rims if you don't plan to do any performance oriented driving. If you do that wheel is too narrow.

No negatives on the street, but some at the track. The stock brembo wheels are only 9" wide which is the narrowest wheel that most tire manufacturers suggest on 275 wide tires. I am starting to get some sidewall roll and excessive wear on the outside shoulders at the track. I am going to a 10" wide wheel for my 275's for the track and will probably go back to a 255 40 19 on my stock wheels for the street.

My Brembo is on 275/40-19 on stock 9" wheels. Lowered on P springs and GT500 hats
I am putting together set of track wheels and will go with the same tire size on 10" wheels.
One alternative is an 18" wheel of the same size as well. I am a big fan of square on these cars.

I prefer the square set up as well. It handles well and I can still rotate to maximize tire life. If I was into drag racing I would probably stagger to maximize straight line traction.

275-40-19 Sumitomo HTR ZIII's on 19 X 9.5 SVE Drifts. They ride a little harder than the original Pirelli Track Pack tires but the improved handling grip on track days was amazing. I've gotten about 20K on them. I am replacing them with Continental Extreme Contatc Sports.
