You do pay a price leaving family roots. I had to get the heck out of St. Louis area and head west to find a place in the mountains. I was drawn. But... sure was tough not seeing family except for a few times (9) since '76.
Yea but you still have a pretty lucky life. Look at those beautiful horses. Lol

Well you know what they say... the harder I worked the luckier I got. lol
The only thing I really had goin' for me is I've been on a mission since I was 11 to recreate a rural lifestyle like my Dad had. He instilled that in me. Whereas growing up in the suburbs next to an interstate ran counter to that. So I followed the 'go west young man' and focused - year after year - good times and bad.

I always kind of wanted to see Churry Hill because that guy I worked with was an important mentor in my young business life.

Post more pics people!

PS: I don't know... maybe I actually started before 11...

David how far are you from St. Simons?

As soon as it is warm enough you cannot get me to a body of water fast enough... good thing the lake and my boat are 15 mins away

oh, haha. It's "the town you drive through to get to Myrtle Beach"

I live in Florence, but noone knows where that's at, so it's always followed by an explanation of "it's halfway between Columbia and Myrtle Beach - it's the town you drive through to get there"

Yeah, you do. I paid $240,000 for a house that was built in 1962, needed major renovations inside (that we didn't know about), and is on a busy street. So, what do I get for my tax dollars in New Jersey? Nothing. I don't have kids in school, or at all, and the extent of my town services is...garbage pickup once per week. Hell, a town worker crashed a truck into a tree in front of my house, and the tree is dying. I've been after the town for months to take the tree down, but will they?

The only good thing about being in Cherry Hill is that I've got access to good restaurants in Collingswood, good restaurants in Moorestown, and access to the Wegman's in both Cherry Hill and Mount Laurel. Other than that, I hate this place.

The eventual plan is to drop this house like a bad habit (once the market has some semblance of a turnaround) and move to Charleston, South Carolina. Wanna compare what $215,000 buys you down there to what it buys you up here?

I've lived in NJ my entire life, minus the four years I was at Drexel for college, and living in Philly (which was far worse than living in South Jersey). There are parts of this state I love, but far more parts that I loathe.

HAHA! Nope...It wasn't my grandfather. I grew up in Neptune City, in Central Jersey. I'm a pretty awful bowler, too.

no offense but if you paid that much for a home that needed all that work, whose fault is it? Were you forced to buy it? Guess you did not do your homework did you.. Don't blame NJ if you bought the wrong home.. I did not buy the wrong home and my town is wonderful to live in.. Just be sure not to buy the wrong home when you move again or it will be that areas fault too
Keep in mind SC homes are cheaper because your wages are less.

For what I do, no, wages are not cheaper. I have a very specialized skill set that allows me to pretty much dictate what my wages will be. Believe me, I've already investigated it, and had several job offers from firms down there.

With that said, part of the blame is on me. I'll admit that. The other side of the coin is that I had a requirement to be where I am, location-wise, and this was the only house in the area that fit my needs. It's a function of the cost of living in a certain area. If I wanted to live in the middle of nowhere, like Winslow, I could have, and I'd have saved money on a house. What I wouldn't have saved money on would have been my taxes, which are just as high as Cherry Hill, the commute to my job in Mount Laurel, and sitting on 73 each day, not moving.

Trade offs.

I'm glad you're happy where you are, but I'd rather be closer to things than farther away.

Cdynaco, you crack me up. You are a gentleman and a scholar and apparently WAY into animal husbandry.

You're better looking than the offspring of Gary Busey, not sure why you got his mug as your avatar...there have been some closer resemblances posted that would work better. I prefer Kenny Rogers, pre-pre-plastic surgery.

Here's another shot of me on an all salad diet - I started eating like a giraffe...graaaaazing on whatever greens were available. I actually gained 27 pounds. And here is a bonus shot of me and the wife on our 15th anniversary trip to Monterey, California.
