Just recently I was told by my mechanic that there were two thigns contributing to my car's running hot: the water pump was going, and my mechanical fan was for a 2.3L (go figure)
So what I want to know is will this fan out of a latemodel V8 explorer fit in my II? the motor in my II is a 1992 5.0. Additionally, is there any actual benefit to this fan? It looks pretty monstrous and seems like it would flow better, but i dont know for sure. If theres no real benefit to this, or if it doesn't fit, what do you all recommend? I think it probably will fit, but I'd like to ask some of you smarter folk first before I make the plunge...

Also, on the topic of water pumps, how much better is a $70 Edelbrock one compared to a Ford part, or even one of the cheaper $20ish ones on eBay? I'm willing to spend money where I need to, but id I don't need to, hey thats some saved cash
generic pump vs Edelbrock pump
I'd really like to get my II to run reliably in the near future so I can focus on updating the rest of it. Thanks in advance!

Some things to check - make sure your charging system (alternator) can handle the demand of the fan's motor, check clearance of fan motor to waterpump pulley and other engine accessories, and have a provision to mount the coolant overflow tank because it may not fit in the stock location with the new fan.
As for the water pump... a stock replacement should be fine or maybe one of the lower cost units from Summit "flowkooler?" or an equivalent although $70 for an Edelbrock unit is pretty good.
IMO, a electric fan from a 3.8 V6 Taurus works well for a lot of Fox 5.0 electric fan conversions, the MkVIII is probably overkill - for the electrical system anyway. A known reliable electric fan controller is the one from Delta Current Control. Seems the site is back up, but you may have to wait at least a month before your order goes through - a lot of people swear by them and that's the route I would have gone... another one would be the FAL variable speed fan controller PN# 33054 which can handle the Taurus fan, but not the MkVIII. Or just use a relay and a manual on/off switch. =)

Well I'm not looking at electical fans, just mechanical. If I ever do go the electric route, you can be assured I will be using a Taurus fan, I've heard tons of great things about them.
I already bid on another Flex fan straigh out of a fox, so I'm no longer concerned about finding a fan.
As for the water pump, I havent ordered one yet, but I'm content with the findings on eBay. Thanks!
