Our power must be super strong up here. 24 inches with 70mph winds, and never even a flicker. (I expected to loose it though)

I ran into a problem like that in Indiapolis once. We got about 6 inches in 6 hours. the ENTIRE city shut down. They are not prepared for stuff like that.

Was it El Paso that has all the problems with frozen big main valves? I laughed my butt off because they told people not to use water and it was still going to freeze the next few nights. If they would have kept faucets dripping, none of the homes would have frozen and none of the big main valves would have frozen.
Now as to brass valves, I don't know what's up with them. My well is the older style setup where you have the tank next to the well head and an insulated pumphouse built around it. But over the years I get these pin hole leaks every so many years. You have to cut into the line, replace the valve, etc. No freezing whatsover, just a pinhole leak in the brass housing.

You gotta realize that some years it never even freezes here. Then if it does its for about 2 hours in the middle of the night and at most its 30.
Last week we were below freezing for almost 72 hours and at night that was in the teens. We just aint used to it. And no water lines here are buried more than 6".
We just can't handle it.
