The problem is the child support and alimony would kill any chance I'd have. I'd have to live with my parents or under a bridge if I ever got divorced.

So I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through the single dudes on MCTC.

Inglourious Basterds was indeed awesome. I throughly enjoyed 90% of it. Loved the color and cinematography of it. And direction too. But really enjoyed the color.

And Diane Kruger =

She is so fine, and when she talks German it sounds oh so good.

And its enough already with the evil corporation stuff. Seriously Hollywood. Get over it. Your government does far worse things than any of these imaginary corporations in your movies. The MNU just killed the whole movie for me. Actually alot of things killed the movie for me. I don't even get why I put up with watching this crap anymore.

In hindsight I'd say District 9 was actually a sucky movie and never had a chance to even be a decent movie.

/end rant
And that's why I watch movies from the 30s and 40s.

I had a thought just now.

BTW Nathan good to hear from you. And yes lots of posts to read.

I was thinking about capitalism and socialism. Regarding health care specifically. So I would like to draft a simple analogy if you'll indulge me.

What is the prime example of capitalism? Monopoly. No. Hardly. Just think about it. The prime example on the simplest of scales in every day life. Tips. More specifically, waiters/waitresses. When we go to a restaurant we pay for our service. If we get good service we can leave a good tip. If not we can leave a small tip. If we don't leave a tip, perhaps next time they'll remember us and do something to our food. You get the idea. They work to earn what we pay them for their service. Capitalism at its finest. They are not doing harm to any trees. They are not operating sweat shops where child laborers toil over Wally world clothing bearing a likeness to Hannah Montana or whatever the pre-teens clamor for next. They simply provide a service and receive a compensation. Now the compensation amount might be borne out of custom, but ultimately the market place decides. If the clientele is in Manhattan or Hollywood the market is quite good, but if its in Podunk, Texas maybe not so much. But the market decides.

So what is the opposite of capitalism in the food service industry. Socialism at the DMV. These people don't work on tips. They are typically unionized and they are paid based upon a scale more likely on the number of years they have been there and not on the number of satisfied customers. Now albeit a civil servant would starve on tips from satisfied customers, but isn't there a reason for that. They are paid to sit there 8 hours a day and do the bidding of the government in most cases at the dismay of the people the government serves. The service is cheerful, not, and the process is timely, not. It makes no difference how they serve you or what you pay, everyone gets the same treatment, bad.

So how does this apply to healthcare? Who would you rather buy your healthcare insurance or even healthcare from? A capitalist waitress, or a socialist DMV worker? When has the government gotten anything right? When has the government, the Feds, ever been on budget on anything. And in the last few years, when has the government, Congress and the President, been honest with anything they tell us.

So the next time you're eating out with teh wife, or the family, think of that little free-market waitress doing her best, or not, to earn your compensation. And when you're in line at the DMV, imagine how that state worker feels, occupying that chair, taking up space, and making no real difference in the world whatsoever.

Now imagine which type of person you would rather see determine whether you live or die?

IMHO

Thanks man. I try not to say anything political here, but I just think that's common sense. Are we capitalists or not anymore? I know I am. But I think alot of others in this country want something else. Actually it may very well not be alot of others, but just a very loud minority that's been waiting in the wings since the 50's for a chance to bring down the systems that made this country great.

Very well said Gary, this brings so many personal feelings and beliefs up for me that I'm almost enraged over it. I will not get into all of it here or now but I'm just glad to see that I'm not the only American who sees issues with the way a lot of this country, businesses & organizations are run. I highlighted a part of you statement that I believe is the issue for most if not all of what you said.
