Well let the process begin...

I am beginning tonight to track down parts for a 5 lug conversion on the '91 vert.

It looks like it's going to be a PITA. But for all those that think the brakes on foxes (except SVO's and Cobra R's) are s***, you're right.

So the plans are to find spindles left and right from a '94 or '95 GT,V6, or Cobra. That seems to be the key to the front. There's an assload of other things I'll need, but with those I can get the other parts of the shelf from parts stores or over the internet. With those spindles I can run aftermarket brakes, or piece together (Cobra,Bullitt, Mach 1) brakes which is probably what I will do.

The rear will be 5 lug also, and I'm leaning to the North car kit with the new Fox width axles that are hardened and new unlike used Ranger axles. Plus the brackets will allow me to mount the 11.65 rear discs too so that the wheels don't look empty with little brake discs.

So that's the plan.

Still need a transmission. It's getting worse. I started peeking behind some of the exterior trim pieces and its a mess under there. Everyhtings old and brittle. Around the top of the windshield under the trim is some kind of black spongey material that at one time was firm, but now just falls apart in your hands. Screws are rusty. I can see where things were rigged up to fit by someone in the past. It's gonna be fun folks.

don't dig too deep, you'll continue to find things. Keep it up and you'll end up putting it on a rotisserie for a total restoration

Right now the Bronco is looking alot easier than the Fox. Yet from all appearances the Fox looks good. Until you look underneath things.

According to a website this is my list for the front...

Sn95 Parts (94+ mustangs):
Here is the list of parts that you will need:
'94-95 spindles from a V6, GT or Cobra. They are all the same. Left and Right side. These will keep the stock front track. You can use the '96+ newer units, but the track will increase 8mm per side.
2 hubs. These come in ABS and non-ABS units. Either one will work.
2 hub nuts to spindle
2 dust caps
4 spindle to caliper mounting bolts (same bolts on all 94-present mustangs)
0.330" tall spacer, 5/8" inside diameter , 1.5" outside diameter (or a stack of washers totaling 0.330"). This is needed to properly fasten the crown nut on the lower control arm ball joint (the fox ball joint is about 1/2 taller than the SN95s and you will run out of threads, pic). If you are buying new tubular A arms, get them with the SN95 ball joints. Here are pics of a homemade one: [pic 1] [pic 2]
calipers and rotors -- see part 3.2 to help on this decision!
If your car is lowered, plan on offset rack bushings or a bumpsteer kit with the '94-95 spindles, measure on the '96+ modular units.
Keep in mind that master cylinder, 3-2 port conversion kit , and proportioning valve upgrades will also be needed if you got to rear disc!
Why upgrade to the SN95 spindles on a 79-93 Mustang? There are many benefits to do this. First, the bearings are sealed and separate from the rotors. This keep maintenance very easy since you don't have to pack bearings. Second, they are the basis for brake upgrades such as the Cobra 13" and Brembos. Third, they have better steering geometry creating more ackerman steering. This increases turn in. Lastly, if you want to run some of the OEM Ford 17" and 18" wheels, you will need to run these spindles. Wheels such as the '97+ 17" GT wheels (including the bullitt wheels), the '98-present Cobra wheels, and the Y2K Cobra R wheels.

The joys of working on an older car. I'd talk to Paul about the brakes/conversion if you haven't already. I thought he sold some of the stuff you'd need. And if you think your brakes are bad, 2.3's have even smaller brakes up front.

I sent Paul a PM earlier looking for the spindles and whatever else he could sell me.

The plan so far is to gather parts, much like I did with 7, and then dive in and git 'r dun.

But in the meantime I've got to get that transmission. So I'll get that ordered soon and get it in the car.

Man I wish I had a lift.

Gary, at least it'll be cooler than when you put the SC on 7. Have you found somewhere to get the transmission? Are you staying auto or going with a 5spd?

As far as Fox brakes go...a boat anchor would be better.

And over pot holes and bumps I honestly feel like the car might crack in half. I know convertibles are not a structurally sound, but I could see the car breaking in half with me driving the front part while the rear end passes me on the outside lane.

Don't forget to put on your jammies and have mommy tuck you in.






I do. And I will keep the AOD. While a T-5 is tempting, this car will be a cruiser. There's so much involved in a T-5 conversion, though there is no computer to worry about, I just don't feel like it. Plus its not exactly cheap either. The AOD I want will be good to 500hp which I only plan to go to about 300rwhp.

Sounds good. Some days I wish the GT was a 5spd, but others I'm really glad it's an auto. Besides, that's what the notch is for.
