I think there's a lot of hullabaloo about the ecoboost replacing the v6. Well, it makes sense! Ford knows they would **** off way too many people if they just up and replaced the v6, but.. I think they know there's no more potential for the v6 as is, and the ecoboost has a ton of room to grow even if it has less cylinders AND more importantly matches up with the brand image Ford wants. It's got more torque and better fuel efficiency (if you drive accordingly). And ford has positioned it to where you can have more goodies. And people still buy the v6 so that says something, but for me, it would be between a fully loaded EB or a base gt with the perf pack

I think im about 8/10 on the ecoboost being better than the v6, and that's not to say the v6 sucks. If I wanted a comfy DD mustang, and was on a tighter budget, I'd buy the ecoboost. My threshold was $30k for a car when buying the mustang, and you'd get a sweet eb for that... I got my track pack 14 with basically no options for that after rebates and I wouldn't trade it for an eb now!! Lol

But seriously... If you want a naturally aspirated high revving good sounding mustang, just get the v8...

It's also interesting to hear folks down at sea level complaining about the EcoBoost not being a whole lot better than the V6, power-wise.

I guess after moving from sea level to over a mile above sea level 22 years ago, I'm completely bought into turbocharged motors because they lose less power than NA motors as you climb elevation. Here in Colorado, the EB is that much more superior to the V6 output, and anyone who wants power and mpg's is aware, in these parts, that the EB is without a doubt the way to go.

The V6 isn't a bad little motor up here, but the EB runs circles around it.

Well given that I've seen 3.7 V6 Mustangs with up to 475 horsepower I wouldn't go so far as to say there's no more potential in it. Additionally, the truth of the matter is Ford couldn't care less what the potential is in either the 4 or 6 cylinder car. They care about selling cars, not aftermarket upgrades. For that matter I don't think they really care about the potential in the 5.0 so long as it sells.

I own a '11 GT, took a business trip to Phoenix this week, and rented a '15 EcoBoost coupe for three days. And I couldn't disagree more about the motor with the OP - it has a ton of torque all over the rev range, a really addicting turbo whistle, plenty of power, it's smooth and quick-revving, the paddle shifters work great, and I'm a believer now. Of course the sound and overall power isn't like a GT or Boss; that's why those options exist. Did you ever drive a 90's 3.8 V6 or a 2000's 4.0 V6? This EB motor is an entirely different stratosphere from those.

Beyond the motor, I loved everything about the car too, other than I don't love the front end styling still...but that wouldn't stop me from buying one. The difference between my '11 and that '15 felt like more than 4 model years.

I thought i would buy a v8 for my next Mustang, now i'm not so sure. The EB will run a 12 second quarter with just a c.a.i. and a tune. With all the standard performance 'bolt ons' (not including F.I.) only a hand full of v6's (i have a v6) have ran in the 12's. I would be lucky to run low 13's I'm thinking my next Mustang just 'might' be a EB4

I don't post on here often, but I do still come and read posts and glad to see you are pretty active here yet ... and was kind of curious if you were itching to upgrade as I am.

I've got 103k miles on my 2011 and it is the best car I've ever owned. Rented a Premium EB for a week back in November and absolutely loved it ... I typically keep my cars 6 years, but I'm itching to upgrade this Spring !!

Decided I'm sticking with a base model as it has most everything my '11 Premium has, I'd prefer Cloth seats, and have been debating V6 or EB. Well, I'm leaning towards the EB.

We (wifes) just bought a 2014 Edge Limited, i can't buy a new Mustang for a few years I only have 21,700 miles on my 2011, so it will make it until the day comes. Also it will give me a lot of time to see how the EB4 do and to also see if Ford has the 'engine tick' (on some) problems and oil burning (on some) fixed with the 5.0's

I'm seriously debating on getting an EB car with a manual and the PP. Just because it would cost me a lot more in the aftermarket than 2K just for brakes and the sways. The price point is great as I would be ordering one from here in Germany and get it tax free with delivery at the dealership of my choice the day I get off the plane when I retire from here. Gotta sell my GT/TP.

I have the EB with PP. After adding the Airaid CAI, Borla Sport Exhaust, and a BAMA 93 Octane tune, I have to say the performance is night and day from what I drove off the dealer lot. I am loving the extra power and response it has now. Ford left a LOT of power and potential on the table for this package. Now I just have to upgrade the stock intercooler to keep my charge temps down to stop the HP losses after long or numerous pulls due to heat soak and I will be where I want to be with this car. For now...

Nice review kylerohde on the EB4. I have not yet driven the EB4 yet, the local dealer had a couple which I checked out and they do look pretty sweet. Still, the 3.7 V6 is a great engine, enough power for some fun, and excellent gas mileage. It does make you wonder whey Ford had to replace it for the most part with the 4 cylinder, even if the 4 banger appears to be a winner for what it was intended for.

I think it was due to the world market more than anything; a lot of the competitors Mustang will be against in Europe and Asia have 4-cylinder turbo motors so it makes sense from that standpoint. And, now that I've driven one and started to read about all the easy power upgrades, it makes even more sense.
