Question New Tire Shopping

Hi Folks
Just brought my 1st Mustang and love it so far. Its a 2015 EcoBoost. It currently has Pirelli 255/ 40 zr 19 tires. I figure I have about another 10-12 thousand miles left on the original tires before they need to be replaced. currently has 22,000 miles. I'd like a set of tires that are not quite as noisy and harsh on the road. Trying to soften it up just a bit. Dont really need really high performance tires. This is my daily driver. I dont want to change tire size. What options do I have for a future set of tires. Also how can I know if I have staggered wheel sizes front to back. I was not sure if the EcoBoost came with 19 front and 19.9 in the rear. Thanks for any advise.

one way to find out for sure what size wheels you have: take them off and look at the back; usually the size is stamped on there . . . if you can't find it in the literature

Tire Rack is a great source for comparative tire info -- tests, ratings on noise and harshness, etc. . . . there are a lot of tires out there, and none of us have driven on all of them . . but Tire Rack has!

I'm pretty sure the door jam sticker shows the tire size but not the wheel sizes, but don't take my word for it, take a look and see what it says

For the wheel size you need two dimensions: the diameter and the rim width. "Staggered" refers to a wider wheel/tire on the rear, usually the same diameter. When you wrote "19.9" I think maybe you meant 19x9, meaning 19" diameter x 9" width . . . but you might have confused the width with the wheel diameter.

Just looked at the door jam. they are all the same size. 19.8.5. I had heard some of the mustangs had staggered wheels slightly wider in the back which means you can't rotate them and that was the reason I was asking. thanks for all the help.

OK, so you have 19" diameter x 8.5" wide wheels . . . now you can look for tires that fit those wheels. First, check the size of your current tires; and look those up on Tire Rack; take note of the overall tire diameter. You want your new tires pretty close to the same diameter. Next you can look up the available sizes for other tires; make sure the tire outer diameter is about the same; and check the recommended wheel rim width (available on the "specs" tab on Tire Rack)
