I have hit the wear bars in 22,000 miles. I don't drive too hard but the tires were in what I thought was really good shape when I bought the car at 14,000 miles. The tread seems to have just evaporated. Enough about the old!

Here is what I want. I want a tire that is quieter and lasts longer. I enjoy some spirited driving but I am not going to a track or anything. I'm not one of you young guys that enjoys burning rubber at every intersection any more. I'm thinking about Cooper RS3-A's or maybe the Kumho Ecsta LX Platinums. Does anybody have any experience with either. I have the Kumho's on my son's car but I don't really spend any time in it.

Other thoughts?

 

I'm running the Toyo Proxes 4 plus. I know it wasn't one of the tires you mentioned but I really like them. They have hardly any noticeable wear, decent grip and are quiet. I've had them for about a year and have put about 7k miles on them.

 

My factory Pirelli's were slick at 19,000 miles. I now have 255/45-18 Cooper Zeon RS3-A tires. They seem pretty good. I only have around 1,000 miles on them so far but i drive less than 5,000 miles per year. I love the way they look. Smooth and quiet, but i think all new tires are smooth and quiet

 

On stock Pirellis with 3.73s I could barely make it out of a parking lot in a few inches of snow. I now have 275-35-18 RS3-As and the difference is like night and day. They inspire confidence in all conditions and you can actually use 1st and 2nd from a start in snow. Have only put a few thousand miles on so far, though, so can't speak to their longevity, but they feel a little soft so I wouldn't expect miracles. A little on the pricier side, but they are quiet and look great. I'd definitely recommend them if you daily drive north of the M/D line, but don't need/want snow tires.

 

Conti DWS / Kumho 4X / Michelin PS AS 3 if you have the money. / Coopers...

It really depends on how much you have to spend and what you want to use them for MOST of the time. Check out TireRack for reviews and stuff to help you decide. The have nice graphs and charts so you can see how they all stacked up against each other based on what's important to you.

 

+1 on the Cooper Zeon RS3-As. I have the the 235/55-17s. I love them. I am getting another set when these go. Great grip in the rain, very confidence inspiring. Not yet worn out at 30K, will get 35 or 40 before I put these to pasture and get the new set.

 

The only problem I have on the TireRack is that the reviews are for all kinds of cars and tire sizes, and as such some reviews are quite nasty, some are spectacular. So grain of salt on some of those.

 

I also have Cooper RS3-A's in 275/40/19. I would buy them again for a DD.

Very Happy with them. Purchased at Discount Tire In Olympia Wa., they met the best internet price I found.

 

It's really hard to beat the Continental DWS for an all-season tire. I've dug through over an inch of standing water on the road with NO hydroplaning at all in our 2013 GT500.

 

Another vote for Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3. I have the those and they handle great in wet/dry but I've never driven in snow with them. Second would be Continental DWS which I have had in all conditions and performed great! Never loss traction when I had them on the '04 or '08 GT.

 

You can sort the reviews based on make and model on there. I have been driving through snow in southern Germany for the last month with no issues except having to leave earlier for work in the morning. I have the pilot sports.

 

True. Most of the reviews on The Tire Rack are done by people with less than 1,000 miles on their tires. Like i said in my earlier Post, All new tires are smooth and quiet. The Tire Rack doesn't sell Cooper Zeon RS3-A's, so i had to search long and hard on the internet to find what people were saying about them. I didn't find much of anything 'bad' about the Coopers

 

I have the Continental DWS and love them. They hook up great in the dry weather and handle great in the rain. I went to 275s all around. I think they have a tread wear rating of 540.

 

The Pilot Sports have a 500 tread wear rating and a AA traction rating. I love mine and have about 750 miles on mine and have driven them in the snow three times and they hug even the curviest German road when it's raining and 37 degrees out. I can't wait till the warmer weather hits and I can really see what they are made of.

 

You can never go wrong with Michelin tires.

I believe that they can also ship them to whichever Discount Tire, or some other store they're affiliated with, and get them mounted. As I work at a dealership and they let me, the IT guy, play with the machines there sometimes (with supervision, of course, we alls ain't stupid) I'll be puttin' my own set on this next go 'round. I already did one... unfortunate sidewall bruise. Can't wait to do all four!

 

I have mail ordered tires a number of times and had equally good luck with tirerack.com and treaddepot.com FWIW - treaddepot sells Cooper.
