Widening OEM rims?

Anyone try this...I need to buy tires soon.

A thought I had was:
move the rear rim to the front (so front will be @ 285)
then
widening the front rim to 10 or 10.5 and move to the rear, run a 305 tire.

thoughts?

I've ran wider tires than recommended. Works but doesn't look pretty.

I looked into this a couple of years ago for a different set of wheels. The cost was quite prohibitive; I figured getting wider aftermarket wheels was feasible. Plus, the OEM wheels are very heavy; widening them will make them even heavier.

My buddy did this on his 03 cobra, had the front's made to a 3.5" and the rear was a 10.5? If you street race it will catch you off guard until you realize its a front runner and a race master out back
