Remove the Discs!

The difference in sound is remarkable. Here's a tip from somebody who learned the hard way: first, remove the bolt that connects the pipe to the rocker panel, then remove the two nuts that hold the attenuator in place. First time I removed the nuts first thinking I could pull the pieces apart and remove the disc; bad idea.

Oh, mine is No. 128 - picked it up last night and removed the discs this morning. Hell of a car!

Sweet, I think the red/black is my favorite combo even though I didn't order it. So how loud is it? Think your neighbors will complain? Tell us more....

Sounds like it's a little late for a before and after comparison

Great looking Boss, and thanks for the removal tip. Did the pipes go back together easily without the discs? Was there enough movement to allow you to bolt it back to the rocker?

From another thread the production disc look to be a thin plate and not thick like on the pre production cars.

This may be a silly question but do you have to get the car on a hoist to remove them or is there enough room to manipulate the removal without a lift?

The red/black looks fantastic! Just like Andy's car, it looks soooo much better outdoors. I think we're all going to be happy with the color combos when we see them live.

Look close the thin disc is between the thick wedge and pipe:

Ah so it is. I don't remember seeing the thin piece on earlier photos, just the thick spacer. That photo is from the February event with production cars. Maybe the thick spacer is there to leave room for electric dump valves. Let's hope anyway.

Has anyone found an electric dump valve for the BOSS?

Here is older pic W/O the thick spacer, Atrain1975, which pic is the way you found it, THICK or NOT THICK?

Here's a screen shot from the Speed Channel special. Is that the disc in there or a couple of gaskets?

So it looks like the disc has depth to it. So you remove the bolts, slide the whole assembly out, remove the disc, and reinstall the assembly sans disc. The dump valves would replace the whole assembly I guess. I'll remove mine but if it's too loud I'll open up the hole in the disc and reinstall. I guess you can tune the sound to your liking. Sweet. We'll have to track different sizes in the hole. Anyone got a decibel meter? Oh I do.

What we really need to know is if and how much of a HP gain there might be from removing the disc.

I'd say that is without disc because I don't see the Tab.
