Radar hardwire - suggestions?

Hey all -

I am looking to hardwire my V1 radar detector. Tapping into the power in the dome light is tempting, maybe notching the plastic cover for the wire, and leaving just enough wire to mount the V1 just below the tint line to the left of the rear view mirror.

Anyone? Anyone?

I just installed my hardwire I bought for the Boss... in my truck! I'll buy another hardwire kit for the Boss. I was thinking of buying a Painless 7 circuit setup like I have in my truck but I found this on the web. It lists the fuses you can use for accessories. Apparently the junction box is behind the passenger kick panel behind some paper with velcro on it.

Copied from another internet post, as always test is out so you know it's ok.

I had my valentine 1 hardwired so it goes on and off with the ignition.

I'll ask my friend/Installer who installed a new sound system into the boss as well as wiring up the v 1.

Mine is just below the rearview mirror and the wire goes towards the hood down below the dash.

I'm out of town right now but when I return I will post pictures and information.

i believe there is a keyed power and ground wire in the headliner right above the drivers visor that is there for the cars that come with the visor garage opener. that would be the way to go.

It's wired to the box on the passenger side of the car, he said it was hooked up to the accessories.

The dome light snaps out easily. Disconnect the plug for ease and hook the green wire from a phone cord to the white/blue stripe wire (12v) and the red one to the black/yellow stripe wire (ground). This will give you a switched power source. Just run the cord out the front of the headliner to your detector,,,, In my case an Escort 9500.

I used an "add-a-fuse" and jumped off a 5a that was assigned to the wiper module in the kick panel fuse box. Minus getting to the fuse box, all went well.

Yep. Bussmann tap from Autozone. I like not splicing into any wires and being able to return it to stock easily. I used the fuse in this picture.

I plug my radar into the 12V source (by the air vents) that's live all the time. How can I make this 12V source turn on and off with the ignition. It's a pain to un-plug the cord everytime. Can I jump something at the fuse box?
