No. The "point" is that "machine turned" is a misnomer. The term to describe the finish on the dash is "engine turned"...and no, there are certainly restorers, manufacturers and hobbiests that recreate the old engine turned finish traditionally with a drill press and probably with other production methods as well. Yes, the dash of the boss is a certainly some kind of plastic with some kind metallic material used in the manufacturing process (vinyl maybe)

Of course it is, we are talking about a piece of plastic. However, for anyone wanting to find products looking as if they are engine turned - feel free to use the term machine turned. It's synonymous and works a champ.

Since apparently I have stumbled onto the Mustang etymology discussion forums, maybe somebody can tell me the origin of "engine" turning, which is accomplished in machine shops with machines and not with engines. On rifles this finish is called jeweling and yet...no jewels. Very confusing stuff here.

Folks - take my advice and don't make a $50 + mistake.
Stay away from Rvinyl.
Cheap, gumball machine quality.
Stick with stock...
