Lost Boss Key
#22
Got my spare keys early on.........
just in case I lost one of the keys.
Ordered the following from www.autotransponder.com
2011 FORD MUSTANG 80 BIT SA Key blank transponder chip Code: FOR355019 $19.95
2011 FORD Mustang Remote key 4 Buttons 80 Bit Code: FOR274629 $84.50
(matches the OE Key with Ford oval logo
but with minimal USPS shipping and just $5.00 a key to cut them at the local locksmith, I thought it was better than having to rely on the dealer to re-program the remaining key and a new one if one got lost

If you lose a key and only have one - you WILL make a trip to the dealer (or equipped locksmith) to have the old (1) key and the new key both re-programed. ALWAYS make a spare when you get a new Ford, since you need any two programed PATS keys to make a third spare, you can not make a second spare with just one key.
For the spare I used a non-flob key (no buttons to open door/trunk) they can be bought for $15-20 on ebay. Then just make the spare youself free by following instructions in any Ford car or truck manual.
Spare key, good seller

More info on extra keys and how to program in here:

Check on top of the cabinets in the kitchen, found one there myself

Thanks 2012YellowBoss for the info and the links I am Plenty relieved.
Question, once the Red Key is programmed, i wonder if we will be able to make a copy of it ourselves as spares, sounds like we will need to buy the special secret chipped Red Key. Any thoughts 'bout that?

I have asked that question to many Ford people and so far no one has given me a absolute answer. When I was at Miller I asked Jim again and did receive a short reply that said "yes any key". If the question to the engineers was poised correct that would mean you could program the black key as the Trackey and the red key would start the car normal. I have also asked the question when Trackey is programmed and you cut and PATS program a second key will it also be a Trackey, again no definite answer but it was eluded to that would be the case.
Why would programing the black be important? It is not that big of a deal but you would be able then to use any black key to activate the Trackey program. I prefer to have the non-flob type key myself (there is no red key like this). I hit the buttons when starting and more important I am tall and I tent to bump that fatter key with my knee. Also you can tell everyone you smoked them with the "normal key" Lastly the black keys are readily available and would be a lot cheaper to buy to make extra Trackey copies.

Maybe most of the members that bought the Boss are old like me and tend to frequently "lose" stuff. I will admit that I have already lost and found my red key. But only because I put it where my wife couldnt find it in case she misplaced her car keys so she could not use my Mustang as a back up car.

When i thought i lost the Red Key, i imagined i may have lost it at a carshow, imagine it would take like two minutes to pick out a Boss, tap a key and figure out which car it started... More panic! I would rather have a key that didnt shout the name of the car, kinda like the guy who took off his graphics so he wasnt followed home cause its a Boss... Ut oh.
Another case of anxiety, i had to get my car inspected by my insurance co. And gosh darn it, if the guy kept goin' on and on about wow are those 19" wheels, wow look at those tires, are those Recaro seats. Hey, u better be careful cause someone may want to take that car. Oh my, all i could think of is how much computer info. That guy just had on the location of my car. I prob. Drove an extra 20 blocks in circles trying to make sure he didnt follow me home ;-)
I suppose this happens to anyone who buys there Dream Car. Shall i take sleep aides tonight?

2012YellowBoss,
Maybe we should get brave and as a group dissect one RedKey and get a real answer!! Like i have seen people take apart ipods to see if they are 3g enabled without the programming yet. Anybody want to chip in for a RedKey? So we get an answer :-)
Lol, :-)

If you can get a Transponder key made for $3.00 anywhere, let me know. Door key, yes, but not one that will start the car. I believe you will be looking @ $75.00 +
