Use of the word is appropriate in this context. I majored in English, Communication and Sociology (so when it comes to vocabulary, I know what I'm talking about) and I'm proud of that and what I accomplished (as I think anyone else would/should be) so lets not pick a word out of my post and argue semantics and then have others pile on okay?
I'm getting really tired of having to defend myself over this aspect of my life seemingly everywhere I go in the real world and online-just one more symptom of the rampant anti-intellectualism in this country today.

I'm no master of the English language, so I did bite the bait and look the word up. I was hoping to learn something new, but I'm having trouble making the word "retroactively" work the way you used it.

When did academics become hands off like religion and politics? That's disturbing...and probably make me LESS likely to change anything-I never bowed to peer pressure at 16 years old and I'm not about to now at 32 years old. That's my screen name, my email address and my license plate for a reason-its the greatest accomplishment of my life after my children and my marriage, its at the core of who I am and what I'm about personally and professionally. Do I love cars? Yes I do but they are not ME....my education, my abilities and how they serve me professionally and personally is ME. The fact others take the time everywhere I turn to attack that says something about them, not me, and usually I let it go but I'm just not in the mood right now to do that.

How is it that Track Key is supposed to bring out the best in the Boss, but every time its mentioned, it brings out the worst in people? 
Maybe they need to cancel the whole program, if it ever gets released it might cause a world war.

Am I missing something with regards to the key? Because its just a key which when inserted tunes the ECU was my understanding...its likely locked to the individual car, but new keys are mated to cars all the time when people lose them...why would the same not apply here?

The Boss is sent from the factory by default with the key...that's the way the car was designed by Ford. Except in CA. So right now people in CA are buying Boss' and they are less than what they should have been without CARB...less than intended by the manufacturer...essentially the cars are built and then, before they are shipped to CA, they key is held back. Therefore, owners in CA who have already purchased a Boss without it if and when approved by CARB could be provided retroactively with a key that would then make their Boss as it was at the time of build…returning it “to a prior time or to conditions that existed or originated in the past”.

So are you saying that Bosses sold in Ca don't come with a red key and are detuned from what the ones sold in the rest of the nation are? Never heard that.

You ought not be so touchy about this part of your life that you are proud of. I am very proud of certain things that I did in school, so I do understand that.
I guess we have not had any real news about the Track Key in quite awhile. Well, the news is that there is one more Track Key thread that went off the track.

Now if it is already loaded in the PCM or not is another thing, but I can imagine its loaded in the 49 state cars ans not the CA cars. Heck MA uses CA emissions cars so then at that rate MA sold cars don't have it either. But what if someone in CA bought their BOSS in TN. Now they have it?

Not clear on your question...are you under the impression the Boss is not being sold AT ALL in CA? Because that's NOT the case. It is being sold in CA. I was just at a dealership this weekend and they have a number of them and I've seen several with local dealer plates on the roads here. Its just being sold WITHOUT the special key that unlocks the "track tune".

Then you have the dealer install the software that is then activated by the key. My original point of owners who have already purchased Bosses in CA being provided keys after all this is ironed out stands however.
