Flat Rock Mazda production impacted by fire at parts supplier
Even though it affects AAI, I don't think this will affect Mustang production

"We ran out of headliners for the Mazda 6, due to the fire at the Howell, MI Magna plant. We will be down next week with a return date of March 14th. "
Looks like more waiting...........or it could just be the Mazda 6 line that's down. Right about now, nothing would shock me.

I wonder if VPC will close as well? I would hope they would stay open and continue to stripe the Bosses and GT500s that were produced this week.

Just pulled this off of the Blue Oval Forums from a worker at the AAI plant:

I don't get it. Theres a boat load of people waiting for retail orders. Why not pull and run them and keep the plant open. I wouldn't be surprised if a boat load of people start bailing. In my opinion it is the best package of the 3, but you cant out perform the competition with something that doesn't exist.

Sparky could answer this better but from what I understand if there is an issue with Mazda it would shut down the whole line including Mustangs. The line is set up to run all cars at once, look what happen with the parts shortage for the 5.0, it shut down the Mazdas and V6's also.
So if there really is an issue with Mazda parts sounds like the production will stop for all cars.

This is my first special order but from what I read about others it does not seem that far out of line.

From Today's Automotive News
The fire has also idled production of the Mazda6 at the AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, Mich., said spokesman Jeremy Barnes. Among other components, Magna produces the headliner for the sedan.
"Once we learn more about Magna's plans for alternate sourcing on key components, we'll know more about the length of the shutdown," said Barnes. "Our intention is to make up lost production through extended shifts, overtime or added shifts."
Mazda is well-stocked with a 92-day supply of Mazda6 units. Production of the Ford Mustang, which is also assembled at the AutoAlliance Plant, has been canceled for next week due to a parts shortage unrelated to the Magna plant fire, said spokeswoman Marcey Evans.
"Now that Mustang is experiencing a different and unrelated parts shortage, neither product will be produced and the plant will not run," said Evans.

My dealer mentioned that no manual cars were scheduled this week but they would next week. He's pretty upfront with me on delays, but I think Ford only tells him so much too. This could be the reason for the delay. He didn't mention anything about the shut down. Probably because he wasn't told.
This to me would be a more plausible reason not the run the Mustang line. Like any plant that runs multiple product, they will usually concentrate on the the other car lines to keep the plant running and I think that's what would have happened here if there wasn't some kind of critical part shortage on the Mustangs.
My masters degree in Murphys Law is sure coming in handy!
