Does the Recaro option cut any weight?

I know it's probably not significant given the estimated 3,631 lb curb weight, but I assume the Recaros are lighter than the stock seats in the Boss. All the specs say about the seats is:

That's a great question, I hadn't considered that. I would guess that the weight savings are minimal, since although it's considered a racing seat, it's still articulated and it's certainly not a full on one piece lightweight race seat.

To an extent that's true, but if you are systematically going to modify the car to reduce weight, every 30 lbs adds up and starts to matter......

Short of removing the passenger and back seats, carpet, sound system, and A/C, there is nowhere to go except to the $79K Boss 302S.

Ford is certain to be aware of the weight, if not the Boss would have started on the Premium GT platform and all its available options instead of the basic GT without many of creature comforts.

I am ordering the BBS 302R wheels that weigh 20 lbs. I'm not sure what the 19" stockers weigh on the regular Boss, but the 18" GT500 wheels weighed 29 lbs. It also looks like the 14" DBA 5000 2-piece rotors I have on my GT500 can be swapped over to the Boss. They are each 8 lbs lighter than the stock rotors. That could be a total of 52 lbs of rotating mass right there.

Each pound of rotating mass you can cut is like cutting 3 lbs off the total weight of the car, for acceleration and braking purposes. So the car will theoretically accelerate and brake like it's 150+lbs lighter.

If you can cut rotating mass of the crank or driveline, it's worth even more.

That's wonderful. The fraction of a second difference should make it light speed fast and the costs worthwhile.

Gotta have track wheels, but sure I could find some that are less expensive. Since I plan to use them a good long time I figured might as well get lighter ones, and they're nowhere near the typical 3-piece at $1100+. The DBAs while expensive when kryo-treated do last and take a beating. Pay me now or pay me later I guess and again it cuts weight. The alternative is just bring plenty of stockers to the track and replace them as they crack. From the photos I saw on the Speed Channel special it doesn't look like we're even getting a slotted rotor so I expect most guys will at least switch to a slotted rotor for the track.

Those are logical reasons. Mods which improve safety all well worth it. Mods with no significant purpose are not.

Stock front rotor replacement cost is $90 each, way better than the $400 or whatever DBA charges for one.

Unless you're going all-out racing, I'd just stick with the (heavier, but cheaper) stock rotors).

Yea if the DBAs don't swap right over I probably will. If they do I've got a brand new set of rings and would use them on the Boss and just go back to my stock rotors on the GT500 for street use. I'm hoping the Boss being about 400 lbs lighter, and much of it up front, will be easier on brakes anyway.
