Breaking in your brand new Boss 302
The article is based on Motorcycles which can exceed 14,000 rpms, however, there is truth to the method in autos. I've drag raced competitively for many years with professionally built engines in the 900hp range. Never have I "broke" in a race motor except to maintain it at 3k for 15-20 minutes on initial start-up for ring seating (not loaded). Also to make sure there are no leaks and oil pressure is good. I don't see anything different in the Boss 302 motor than a spec'd race motor with the exception of synthetic oil. Forged internals being the most obvious comparison. Is there any specific difference between the 302R and S motors to the Boss street 302? Is there even a brake-in procedure for the race versions? Maybe someone from Grand-am can chime in.
I personally use a combination of the 2 methods similar to Berol and Cdynaco for high performance built motors only.
