I can understand that

I have always said I like the 3/4's best but run the 7/8 myself for a little extra sound. That is the beauty of the design and as Patrick says, everyone hears it different. The vids do not do the sound justice.

Patrick thanks for the report, I would like to hear more of what people think on highway noise/drone with the different sizes. I never tested for that since I do little highway driving. The longest trip I did was 2 hours with the 7/8's in and there was a little drone but nothing annoying.

It is hot here in Houston. But with the 3/4 plates in the side pipes, I always roll down the windows before I start the engine, just so I can hear that awesome bark and rumble. Then I drive with the windows down and the AC on max until it gets too hot. (I hope Al Gore doesnt lurk on this forum)

I can't wait for the TracKey to see it's effect on the sound, especially at idle, in combination with Scott's discs. It has to a fantastic combo.

Anyone else notice this??

Tooling around town in my Boss (using only 2nd, 4th, and 6th gears), with the windows down and my 3/4" plates, sounds a lot like the first part of this scene...

EDIT: Fixed the link.

Edit: I was suppose to post these here since this thread has all the vids of all the sizes.
https://themustangsource.com/f813/ex...9/#post6054161

Finally got around to making a vid of the 5/8's discs and the new 1 inch also. The one inch sounded better then I thought, you can tell the difference for the 7/8 but I would think you will start to get a drone on the highway, if that is a concern I would stay 7/8 or under. There was a little of the downshifting noise but less then I thought there would be for the size.

5/8

1 inch

and a ride along with the 1 inch

This is a nice vid done by STIG302 at BMO, has two parts open then with the 1 inch.

I used to rarely drive with my windows down but do it all the time now. Radio what radio?

I received a set of 7/8" discs from Scott last week and installed them over the weekend. I had to go out of town for a couple of days and didn't get a chance to drive my car until today. The 7/8 is noticeably louder than the 1/2 but not obnoxiously so. All I have to say is wow they sound awesome. I took a couple of coworkers for a ride in my Boss today and they were impressed with the "race car" sound. My wife likes it too. I don't think I want it any louder so the 7/8 discs are staying.

Scott- thanks for posting those videos. Somehow I completely missed that this thread and developed into a video thread when I made the video I posted earlier. Looks like there were much better videos out there than mine, I just didn't know where to look.

Dan
This is the thread with most of the vids, they are not the best but you can get a general idea.

I posted the vids in this one by accident last week when I made the new vids.

Where do these discs go? I'm assuming they vary the exhaust sound?

Funny I've been using 1st, 3rd, and 5th in the morning to limit synchro wear in 2nd until it warms up. Shift at 4k in first and it'll drop into third at about 2k.

I love all the posts about listening to the exhaust rather than the radio. I too drive with windows down and radio off most of the time. In fact, I had to take the car out tonight on some twisties in and around the Niagara escarpment just to hear the bark as the rush hour drives this week just weren't cutting it. Totally blew away a weeks worth of tension as well and even with the price of gas it was way cheaper than a shiatsu, not that I'd trust any of those places open this late at night. I love driving this car and wish we had even better roads in Ontario. I long to drive the final road featured in Top Gear's best driving roads episode. I can only imagine how much fun that would be.

It is a soothing sound. I flew up to a cop in the slow lane today on my way back from work. I was doing at least a hundred because when I looked down after slamming on my brakes I was at about 90... Can't believe he didn't hear me coming. I'm going to Tahoe next weekend and will be pulling the disks and possibly different mufflers by then. A local guy has some GT500 mufflers for sale on CL. Gonna have to go hit the tunnel over on the Nevada side!! GT500 mufflers are different right?

Yes, by changing the size of the opening you can tune the sound to your liking. Most people agree the the factory 5/16 hole is too small, some like the sound wide open. 3/4 inch discs give the Boss a good sound, the exhaust is more pronounced then the the factory sound without drowning out the motor noise. You can listen to the sound of different discs from 1/2 to 1 inch here:

Yes mufflers are different. From what I've read they are louder but not as loud as most of the aftermarket mufflers. The upside is they should have less drone. Let me know if you don't buy them. Also drop me a line if you want to meet up next weekend.

The 2011/2012 GT500 mufflers do not have less drone than the production 5.0L mufflers. The Boss' sidepipes (with 5.0L mufflers) were engineered to run without the plates and not have "drone". Just want to clarify that.

GT500's mufflers are pretty nice. Louder but still tuned for no drone. Every aftermarket muffler I've ever owned or evaluated at work has drone. Only Corsa's use an actual resonator in their design to try to reduce drone, but they don't work that well (at least what I evaluated on a 4.6L 3V car a few years ago). I forget who makes it, but someone just came out with a spring loaded valve in the muffler (edelbrock?) that should reduce drone, but it still isn't a tuned muffler, so it may still have problems.

Great info, thanks. Is this why they have the flatten area in them? I love the sound I get with the discs a little larger then the factory holes without having to change mufflers and have been complemented on the Boss's sound at Sebring by the guys behind me, I don't even bother to remove the 7/8 size on track days.

You guys do good work.

Scott, I haven't changed the 1/2" disks I got from you. I like the sound. I still have unused 3/4" disks. How would you characterize their sound relative to the 7/8" or 1/2"?
