Would be nice if someone weighed one or both of the side pipes. Would be interesting to see how much weight would be saved capping them for the track?

Of course eater fewer cheeseburgers and drinking fewer Sierra's would accomplish the same thing.

They are not heavy at all, any gain you might even see would be a wash by losing the little extra flow. My guess is about seven pounds each, just a guess from what I remember. Unless you are removing everything like washer fluid, trunk mats, rear seat, radio and more I would not worry about them.

If it is something you would still like to do let me know, next time I am under there I will check the studs to make sure they are threaded all the way. If so a simple set of blanks should work.

I thought I was a really big guy and I don't need to jack it up

Out of 1/2 and blank discs again. I will have them make more for next week since there is a lot of people still asking for them. You can still PM me if you need that size, I will get them out as soon as they are done.

I am also going to run a few sets of the 5/8 this time since the few people that got them said they really like the sound. I am also going to have them make a set or two at 1 inch and hope to try them and post a vid. From what I learned before I think you can tune a sound to about 1 - 1 1/4 inches, beyond that I doubt there would be a lot of difference in the sound from completely open.

Right now I have about three sets of 3/4 and 7/8 discs ready to go. With the two extra sizes I will have from 1/2 to 1 inch in 1/8 inch increments to choose from.

The side pipes weight 5.5 lbs ea. The threads go deep enough that you could cap them off and run without them. That said, you'll never feel the difference in weight.

Everyone that was waiting - all discs are on the way Pitt Boss and others that waited a while thanks for your patients on this, the last order took longer then expected.

I made some more 5/8 and 1 inch along with the other sizes this time. I hope to do a vid soon of these sizes.

We may be working on a new project here with my car. Making short pipes, about 3-4 inches facing down, for a friends car that has not been built yet. If they work I may keep a set for track use, I think they would be too loud for the street. Rumor has it this is what Ford wanted to do but could could not come up with a legal sound so the made the entire side pipe with the flattened areas.

My 1/2" discs came in the mail yesterday. It only took about 20 minutes to install without lifting the car. It was tight but being tall with long arms helps.

I love the sound. Just enough to sound like it should have from the factory but not enough to annoy my neighbors.

Thanks YellowBoss!

So I opened up the side exhaust and was happy with the sound @ first. Ran it most of the last week without plates. Honestly it sounds great. However, I put the 1/2 in yesterday I truly have to say its sounds dam good better than I expected after running it for a while without anything. I can hear the itunes again. Lol! Thanks Scoot kick *** job might order other sizes to mess around...

Thanks all, I had fun doing this. Carlos, that was the whole idea to me, finding a good "tuned to you liking" sound. I'm sure Ford had this in mind when the made the side pipes.

I was surprised what a difference a 1/8 increment made with the plates. I have been running the 7/8 for a while but I think I will end up at 3/4 myself.

Swapped out my discs this morning. I have 5/8" & 3/4" from Scott. Decided to go with the 3/4 to start. Briefly contemplated going sans disc until I removed the first original and saw the size of the unrestricted pipe. I think I already have enough hearing loss from 55+ years of idiot stunts. ~20 minutes for total swap. It sounds great!! 200 mile road trip today to show the Boss to my dad. That will help me determine if I want to go to the smaller discs.
Thanks Scott!!

I finally got around to putting in the new exhaust discs. I have been running around town for about a month with no discs. I really like the no-disc sound with the exception of a bit too much in cabin drone. But with the windows down, its music to my ears. I put in the 7/8's today and took her for a spin. I liked the sound very much, a nice compromise on cabin drone. It also cuts back on the excessive engine brake gurgling I didn't care for much. at this point I'm not even going to try the 3/4. I will definately drop out the discs for track use, that sound is AWESOME!
Thanks Scott! Great job!

Thanks Bossdog, I could not have said it better. I agree with you on the open sound, it does sound good at first but has some drawbacks that can be easily fixed with the discs. However I will leave the great job part to Ford and the guys that cut the discs I just happened to be lucky enough to get the car early enough to do some testing.

Right now I am out of 1 inch so I can not do a test vid, will do that when I get more. I plan to put up a 5/8 vid early this week. I have only one set of 1/2 left, you can order but it could take up to a week to ship out.

Scott,

Sorry but I've been wrapped up in the whole taking delivery of my car thing. I put the plates in at the dealership, and have enjoyed the sound very much. They are probably too loud for tooling around in the city, but that's one good way to moderate my desire to jump on the gas...

Nice work on the design.

What size hole are you using in your exhaust?

I have the 5/8 & 3/4. Put in the 3/4 this weekend and drove about 300 miles. 200 of that was a road trip on the highway. I found they were not too loud at crusing speed and just loud enough in town and accelerating. All if my passengers liked the sound, no one said too loud. Should qualify that; all of my passengers were in their 50's (like me - can no longer hear well) or in their 20's (nothing is too loud for them). I might go wide open this weekend for fun.
