After two years the Boss is indeed, dead?

I think this thread has officially crossed the threshold into trollville.

The Boss 302 was about $5K over a GT, and the Laguna Seca was another $5K over that. So almost $10K over a loaded GT.
I think it's safe to say Ford made their money back on the development of these cars, and don't forget the parts (and their development costs) are now available thru Ford racing.
Trust me, Ford would NOT do any program that would lose money.

That way they don't get the money 'g' confused with the weight 'k' for kilo.

Not that I wouldn't want a NA 5.8 in the next naturally aspirated SE Mustang.

Speaking of which, wouldn't a next gen Bullitt be flat out awesome using the road runner V8 and 4 pot Brembos with 2 pot rears and targeting current Boss car performance. Hopefully Ford continues the Bullitt trend introducing it a few years into the production of the new car while we wait for the next big time SE.

It was nice of Ford to pay homage to the 1969 and 1970 Boss 302 with the recent production of the Boss 302. It gave older buyers an opportunity to purchase a Boss 302 that they may not have been able to buy in 1969 or 1970. However, Ford is missing an opportunity to attract a new generation of buyers by not offering a version of Boss 302 that does not have the stripe pakages of 1969 or 1970. What a waste of resources to just make a model for two years. It would have been so easy to have carried the Boss 302 over for one more year. The 2012 and 2013 models could be for the collectors . The third year model could be for the general populance. As far as I know, the CAFE standards are the same for 2013 as 2012. It just coud have been so easy to have the Boss produced for one more year. I always wanted a new version of Boss 302 that did not look exactly like the 1969 or 1970 Boss 302.

Great article. Good find. Now they can come out and say Ford promised only a two year production run for the Boss. Appears someone is trying to justify the discontinuation of the Boss 302. If it was such common knowledge that the Boss 302 was to be produced for only two years, why was it then necessary to send a bulletin to Ford dealers to inform them that the Boss 302 was deleted for the 2014 model year ? All the dealers should have already had that information.

Folks buy/sell dealerships and there are employee staff changes all the time.

Bro, I knew they were promising a two year run when they were introduced. It was no secret, whether they officially announced it or not. Since then, owners have been wondering if they were going to keep to their word. So it seems that the general consensus is that enthusiasts were expecting only 2 years. It has happened, and is not a surprise. The only reason it may be news to the dealers and to the rest of the world is because most people, including most salesmen, know very little about the car, why it is different, and why it is limited. I had to explain to three different dealers about the red key. They had no idea what it was all about or how to install it. And, it is a very small niche market. Imagine you are a salesman and you are expected to sell a super high performing base car that is more expensive than your fully loaded GT with leather, technology and an already high performing potent V8, and it comes with summer only tires and no spare. 99% of your customers will probably walk by, think it looks sweet, but NEVER want to buy one. Watch Ebay, and you will see these cars sit. IMO, the Boss was not really intended to be a big seller. In fact, I would be surprised if they actually made much profit, considering they had to retrofit their engine dyno facilities to even test the engines to the higher RPM. Ford made an investment to show up competitors on the track. It was a huge marketing success for them, but I am sure they were aware it would not bring high volume sales.

I gotta disease, and it can only be cured by more cowbell...
Or in my case, more special/limited edition Mustangs starting with the letter 'B'. I still need the '08 Bullitt, I'm gonna go broke!
