No SYNC and no leather seating, either, and a whole host of GT options are not available on the Boss 302. Sure looks like they've based the Boss 302 off the standard 300A GT, not the Premium GT.

IMHO, the same car would cost $60K + if offered by SMS, Roush, Steeda, etc. And don't even get me started how much I think Shelby would have charged to make a car like this at their mod centers.

They are extremely overpriced as well. However, in their defense they tend to allow for the creature comforts as well. Not having Sync in this car in the days of hands free cell phone laws is pretty stupid.

Ford is conceding the high end performance crown to the Z28 for 2012. It's not the end of the world.

Ford knows it's coming, and something will be readied to combat it. They won't sit on their heels for long.

How is Ford conceding the "high end performance crown"?
- V-6 Mustang - Better than Camaro V-6
- GT Mustang - Better than Camaro SS
- Boss 302 - No Camaro Fits Here
- Boss 302 LS - No Camaro Fits Here
- GT500 - Z28 Camaro? Hasn't hit the street yet

Not too bad on the base Boss, even if the Recaro package seems a little steep. I would have hoped for around $36K-$38K, but $40K is still fairly reasonable.
The LS package seems a bit less of a value, basically right up there or over the putative top dog GT 500. However, given its limited production status, and there IS some real meat in the package, not just a fluff and stripe package, and likely a better overall performer than the GT500.

The prices seem to be about what I was expecting. It is like the 2000-R with all the special parts that are used to build it. If you were to get a std GT and start working on it, it would cost way more in the end. I look at it as I am buying a world class race engine and I have to take the car to get it.

So you expect Shelby to do their mods for free or very little profit???
The problem is you have to start with a mustang and Ford ain't giving you a discount because Shelby is going to mod it. So already you start with a full priced car, next Shelby has to mod it and take parts off and add parts on- so in a sense you're paying double for those parts. R&D factors into costs, so it's just not the cost of parts. And then there is profit.

I think this is the same kind of thing when the 08 Bullitt came out, many people wanted the induction style hood on the car but the costs were just too high for Ford to invest in such a limited production car.
