So, my 2012 Boss 302 only has 8k miles on it. I am driving it to work more now and enjoying it so much.

Something that I am noticing is after driving and staying in one gear for say 15 minutes or more in say 4th gear or any gear, when I go to push in the clutch to downshift or upshift, the clutch is hard to push in and feels gummy? What am I experiencing and is there something going bad with the clutch?

I hope I described this correctly. When I push the clutch in a few times after this initial push, then it gets normal feeling and takes no effort to push in the clutch.

Please help identify what’s happening. Thanks.

 

It sounds like the clutch hydraulic system has air in it and needs to be bled.

 

I've got over 20k on mine and never experienced that problem. I have had the occasional 3rd gear lock out but no stiff or mushy clutch feel. I hope it's something easy and also not costly.

 

After reading some stuff online, it sounds like it could be heat related? So basically I drive in 4th gear a lot on my commute to and from work due to the rolling mountains, so I am curious if I am building up that much heat in the engine or transmission and or the brake/clutch fluid bowl such that it has a hard time pushing in when I want to down shift as I approach a nice twisty turn after sitting in 4th gear for 20 minutes let say. So, perhaps it is a heat issue?

 

I would think heat would make a clutch slip easier. Mines a cable driven clutch, but on longer drives in the same gear, my clutch less grabby, if that makes any sense. If you're thinking maybe heat is effecting the hydraulic fluid, you could try and find some insulation to wrap around the hydraulic lines that are near your exhaust.

 

This has come up quite a lot on TMS and SVTP. Get them to tear down the trans and make sure nothing else is wrong, other than that you should be fine.
