Purchasing a BOSS
Purchasing a BOSS
Hello all. I'm in the midst of purchasing a 2012 Boss and it only has 1 key. Starting to do some research I know now they have the M-9603-MBTKA but where would I find or is it possible to get the red key? Any help would be much appreciated.

Read that, page 5 specifically, about the middle of the page. You can order one and have it programmed at the dealer. As to anywhere else, well... that's going to be complicated I'm sure.
And there's no guarantees the dealer can even get one, so you might be ebay hunting or something. Maybe ask Tasca parts, they might have a source or something.
Special cars, special needs. I might want a VERY reduced price if they can't cough up the key that came with that kit.

I'm buying a 2013 302 and just contacted Ford Racing by Speedshop Direct the other day. Here's what they told me:
Every Boss 302 came with two keys, a red key and a black key. The red key would serve as the spare key. If the customer wanted, they could purchase the track key program and pay the dealer to install it into their vehicle. This would install track key settings into the car that would be activated whenever the red key was used to start the car.
If the car is missing the red key, then you can order new a spare key from the local Ford dealer. They will probably cost about $150 plus the key cutting cost to fit your existing locks.
The cost for the trackey software is $619.99 on our website: http://www.fordracingbyspeedshopdire...9603-mbtka.htm
You can pay to have the dealer download the software into your car with the included tool or you can do it yourself. The dealer will still be needed regardless to synchronize your red key with the passive anti-theft system and trackey software.

If I like shopping, would I enjoy this job? I imagine this would be like shopping for the best deals on a huge scale but I am pretty ignorant on what the job actually spam removed entails.

I caught you, you sneak. Editing your earlier messages and slipping in the spam links is a BAD FORM, especially when you reply so badly to this topic. As in, WHAT are you going on about?! Doesn't even fit!
It's actually kinda crafty, though. He would post something, thinkin' the thread was done-ish. Then he'd come back a couple-three days later and put in the link. If it weren't for the inanity of this particular reply, I wouldn't have caught him, and he's been doin' it for *quite* the while. Lil' (high-foreleg cut of pork)-head.
If it weren't bad form, I'd sorta kinda be leanin' towards slightly impressed with the tactic, to be honest.

A little update on the subject - mine only came with one key as well. I was able to contact Ford Performance and they verified, by using my VIN, that the car had it's computer flashed by the original dealer. He said that might be an indication that the tune is already on there and I just need to buy a key and have a dealer program it as the track key. So, I bought a red key from Levittown Ford (online) and had the key less than a week later. I made an appointment with my local Ford dealer and they were able to cut the red key and assign it as the track key because the tune was, in fact, on the car. I am thrilled that it worked out.
Yes, quite a bit of difference... more raw and unrefined... It only took me about 8-10 minutes to get home from the dealer, but my initial thought was that I probably wouldn't use it all the time when I'm just out and about. They definitely were not worried about NVH, it idles a bit rougher, but the sound is fantastic. The engine braking is a little weird at first, but not enough to be an issue. Those were just my first impressions after being in it for a short time.

If the Boss Trackey is anything like the GT Trackey for the 2014.5 GTs it is well worth it! I have the GT tune on my car and love the way it changes the throttle. Much quicker response, Engine braking is kinda fun, makes my Boss side pipes pop and crackle when back off the throttle. But, the best part is the Loppey Idle. Love to sit at a stop light and feel the car move with the exhaust note. Get lots of comments on how great the car sounds. Rarely run my stock key anymore. Usually just the first 100 miles when I bring the car out of storage, or if doing a long road trip, better fuel mileage. My key does require 91 octane vs 87 on the stock key, not sure about the Boss version.
Do it, well worth it!
