I notice the 911 GT3 beat the Shelby by almost 5 SECONDS PER LAP. That's huge. That's a similar performance difference as a 2013 Shelby compared to a 2012 Lexus IS F.

A 911 GT3 owner has about as much to fear from a Shelby GT500 as a Shelby GT500 has to fear from this:

You think a little brake upgrade and a bit of suspension tuning is going to make a Shelby keep up with a GT3 on a road course?

Look at those lap times in the link above. A 911 GT3 is 5 seconds per lap faster than the Shelby. You think a bit of braking improvement and a change of springs is going to make up that difference? 5 SECONDS PER LAP? If that were true then just how rotten is the suspension under the Mustang that it's fastest version can be made 5 seconds per lap faster with just a change of shocks and springs and maybe a swaybar?

Get real. The difference is insurmountable. NOTHING you do to a Shelby is going to make up a 5 second per lap difference.
5 seconds huh.. from ****ty car and driver drivers. More like 2 seconds from an actual professional race car driver. here's the link http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/laguna_seca.html I forgot to mention to give it a bit more power, bigger ans stickier tires. Maybe a little lighter and you can cut 2 seconds off your lap time. If you don't know how to make a car faster, then sorry buddy you're not cut out for racing.

Just checked out the c&d article and I have to say the design looks incredible. Please Ford come out with some more exotic colors this time! And did I read that right, 500 h.p. and 200 lbs lighter? If so, the title of the best bang for the buck performance car in the universe continues for the GT muahahaha!

Question

Yes, the recent renderings do look good, but the new Mustang looks quite similar to the current Mustang with some tweaks to the sides, headlights, and rear end. Where are the pictures of the revolutionary new Mustang that is to be coming for model year 2015 ?

personally i think the move to create similarities in a lot of Ford's cars is a mistake. I don't want to see hints of other models in the mustang.

Even though it looks like the current Mustang, isn't it suppose to have different dimensions? i.e. wider, shorter, lower

Modestly so, per rumors, more so on weight though.

200 lbs lighter seems more believable than a 500hp base V8, then again this could be a mass neutral affair and the next generation Mustang might very well need 500hp to produce the sort of meaningful difference in performance modern vehicle buyers demand even if they aren't likely to use such capability.

I think the Mustang should have its own unigue look and not resemble any other Ford product. The Fox Mustangs looked different than any previous Mustang, but they were what a Mustang was suppose to be and did not look like other Ford cars.

Larry ! I must respectfully disagree with you.. As a former owner of 3 fox body Mustang's in which my last was a 93 SVT Cobra..

The fox body Stangs were based off the Fairmont platform including the Ford Thunderbird, Ford Taurus, LTD, Ford Tempo, Mercury Cougar, Mercury Zephyer, Lincoln sports coupe at the time and the Fox body Mustang mostly resembled the Ford Escort only more stretched out..

In fact non Mustang enthusiasts mostly GM fanboys would always mess with me saying you call that a Mustang lol.. Your car looks more like a Ford Escort with Mustang badging on it..

I'm pretty sure Ford had a nice modern, forward looking design planned for the next gen. The problem is that there are lot of old farts that want all Mustang to always look like the original one or else. That is when Ford went to the drawing board and compromise the design. The car still looks awesome I think, but it is not as revolutionary and bad *** as thought it would be. Hopefully my generation is more open to changes for future Mustang redesign.
