I think the S197 S550 debates will slowly die down as more people bring home their new beauties :-) it won't go away forever because there's nothing like good comparisons and debates! And plus we don't want the S197 guys to feel left out haha :-)

if they change to 'current' it will need changed before you know it... my S197s are 5 to 9 years old already, the little boys that rode in the back seats are now driving. 'newness' wears off in the blink of the eye, cars get older faster than Microsoft's latest and greatest.

enjoy it for what it is, what it will be, for as long as you can- we wont be 'current' for long either. hope the 15's are as beloved by their buyers as 2025 nears, as my 'old' stick axle/5 speed/lowly 300hp versions are

if i'm around in ten years my stick shifts will likely need swapped for a more knee friendly alternative, heck by then maybe the lovely V8 growl will be replaced with the whirr of a 'mr. fusion' of course all depending on how successful this country is at getting rid of all that bankrupting hopey-changey stuff that was flavor of the week for voters not so long ago.

Speaking of good comparisons and debates, TMS just posted this video:

That is a ridiculously slanted comparison. A broken in S197 with the Track Pack vs a brand new S550 without the Performance Pack. Why even bother?

I agree on the S197 being broken in and having the track pack but with all the hype I expected more from the S550 in a straight line! Well let's see how they compare on the track.

All I mean about changing this forum to current is the 2015 IS current, not the "next generation" anymore like TMS heading says. Scott

It's slightly slanted. But we've also watched the 2012 GT beat an S550 at the dragstip here too. (no track pack in 2012) Video from American Muscle.

Why would you expect the result to be any different? S550 weighs more, has IRS which hampers it at the drag strip, and only has 15hp and 10tq more. S197 weighs 3618, the S550 is over 3700. No way this comparo can go any other way. Unless the S550 is moded.
