Oh, and interesting that their benchmarking against the 911.
The ZL1 I can understand. But I'd have though (for SVT) the BMW M3 and Audi RS5 would have been their focus.
In terms of chassis balance and steering feel though, the 911 is probably the one to beat.

They certainly aren't pulling punches on the next SVT 'Stang if they're swinging for the 911. Has me thinking, the GT-500 is a sort of Grand Tourer, something the Porsche is certainly not. BOSS is the turner today, so maybe this is the rumored GT-350.

Lots of rumour (elsewhere in the '15 section) that Ford will build the GT350 for the next gen car. If that's the case, it's unlikely we'll get both GT350 AND 500..........so expect GT350 to be a different beast to the current car. I'm hoping for a mix of GT500 brute power with Boss levels of chassis balance. And I wouldn't expect it for the '15MY.
Twin Turbo does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it?
Personally, I don't see a future for the Trinity 5.8 in the Mustang. Twin Turbo V8? Maybe, but not for a while........may 2 or 3 years into S550. That's certainly the way the German's are going with their performance engines.

Haha.....thanks! Who knows if I'm right......I'm just adding the little bits of information together that gets posted in the various threads on TMS.
Obviously there's loads we don't know yet, but it's nice putting the puzzle together

I think they will definitely build a boss type variant (350) and gt500. If they were working on Dialing in steering feel it makes a ton of sense the 911 was there because that is supposed to be the best electric steering setup out there. Would make sense to apply lessons learned across the whole line even if the svt team leads the testing and development.

I'am going to go out and say that the regular next gen mustang gt could very well get the job done! The current one is competent enough as it is even having the most outdated suspension in it class. Now imagine the lighter weight, added power, superior weight distribution and modern suspension equals recipe for 911 and M3 class supper.....all in a regular gt

I imagine as SVT is a big part of Ford and the Mustang, a representitive from SVT (as well as a team of SVT engineers) are on hand. Every move made by the product is overseen... There could have been a rep from Europes RS because it is their job to know the product first hand.
Especially since they intend to continue to build and improve the product in the future. What can it do in base form and how far can we take it?
Lol at Ford for using the ZL1 to bench the next GT off of... Looks like just the addition of the CB IRS settled the car down... Now, more power, less weight, better balance, better tires and you have a seroius entry level GT car for just over $30k.
What happens when the 2015 GT goes up against the 2014 ZL1?
...and wins...

Anyone ever think this was the GT350 AKA "Boss" for the 15 body style?
It could be a Turbo V6, which shows why they would put it up against a "Track" car like the 911.
Shelby was quoted saying that the industry was moving to small displacement turbo powered cars.
I would bet my money it was a GT350

Can a ZL1 handle a 911 Carrera S? No... The ZL1 cannot... It would surprise me to see an SVT product MY15. The use of a MY14.5 might help push a GT350 or GT500 out. I see a GT350 coming in 2015 as a 2016, just in time to throw a wrench into the Z28 wheel.
Regardless of performance numbers, no matter what the Camaro does. The new Mustang will win EVERY comparison. The ZL1 was specifically media groomed to be sacrificed to a 2015 GT. That's the ways it's always been...
If the GT500 isn't needed, then don't play it yet. Beat the ZL1 with a GT...

+1^ I could see shaving 2-300 with reducing the size but to drop 800 they would have to use LOTS of magnesium, aluminum and carbon fiber and all that would add tooo much to the bottom line cost. Maybe for the next GT500 or GT350 throw some carbon fiber on with hood deck lid and roof but I dont see it on the base model or GT. It is already lighter than the Slowmaro and the cruise ship like challenger, so shaving a few hund plus new suspension geometry irs and possibly more aggressive tuning of the coyote to up hp another 15-20 and those other guys will be crying all the way back to their design and R&D offices hoping they can even get close in a few years. Hell the base c7 vette will only have 450hp/450tq so you know the next maro wont have that in SS trim. Good times to be a Mustang fanatic
