Whatever works
I don't know. I think they would have their own things to work on, and Team Mustang has theirs.

Keep in mind they could be testing anything at this point in that mule.
One thing, many things. Only they know, but it is fun to guess.

I bet its valve stems... new SVT valve stems. 10% lighter.

But then again, it could be anything in its experimental stages.

They could purposely put a ton of baffling and sound proofing in the exhaust and under the hood to muffle the sounds so us curious fans cant figure out exactly is powering it.

its worth noting both BMW and Audi TT V8s sound pretty mean so i wouldn't worry about the final car sounding like a true mustang.

If they are indeed testing an SVT mustang I hope we get it along with the rest of the 2015 Mustang lineup and not the two model year delay like 2005-06.

Anyone know if the next SVT is still a GT500?

Usually there is a model year delay unless much of the car is carryover like the 2010 GT500.

3 seconds slower is a lot on a track. Hopefully the new aero will eliminate the brick like aerodynamics of the current car and will pick up a second and a half that way. Then I'm hoping this IS a smaller engine test, a 4 or a 6.

Maybe its quiet because Ford doesn't want you to know what type of engine it is or whats on the engine.

Maybe. They still have to validate a production exhaust system to meet specifications to be road legal too. If they had the track to themselves, they shouldn't worry what it sounds like.

. . . Maybe the car had a de-tuned Roush-Yates 3.5 Ecoboost (for production purposes or future racing Mustangs) that will be powering some Daytona Prototypes in Grand-Am this season. Longshot . . . but maybe . . . probably not . . .

Doesn't the exhaust note sound like a muffled V6 to you guys... if this is the ecoboost 4 that is rumored, then Ford excelled in the exhaust note for it, IMO.

I thought the rumble as it pull out of the corner at the end of the vid sounded a bit too beefy for a Turbo4. Maybe it's one of the new Nano V6s with an EcoBoost 2 set up.

To me, it sounded like a throaty V-8 when you listened carefully enough. Especially when it turned the corner and started picking up speed again I thought I heard a bit of a V-8 in that...but if that was the case then why muffle it...soooooo I'm still clueless and my entire post leads to nothing.

I heard the burble and separation at the corner, too. Definitely a V6 of V8. Is it wrong to hope for a twin turbo 5.8?

No I'd love a twin Turbo V8. If the GT500 needs one thing it's more power!

Great find! Also guessing it is a EB V6 test mule. I also like the "benchmark car" brought along for the test session (hint: NOT the Camaro) - could mean a more focused driver's car in the works.

Lots of rumour (elsewhere in the '15 section) that Ford will build the GT350 for the next gen car. If that's the case, it's unlikely we'll get both GT350 AND 500..........so expect GT350 to be a different beast to the current car. I'm hoping for a mix of GT500 brute power with Boss levels of chassis balance. And I wouldn't expect it for the '15MY.

Twin Turbo does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

Personally, I don't see a future for the Trinity 5.8 in the Mustang. Twin Turbo V8? Maybe, but not for a while........may 2 or 3 years into S550. That's certainly the way the German's are going with their performance engines.
