Exhaust systems and alternatives

I've been reading about all the free flowing exhaust systems that are boosting HP and making the 5.0 sound like a Mustang should. The one topic that keeps coming up is how much restriction the "suitcase" is causing.
I'm starting to wonder how the system would sound with a "suitcase eliminator" kit. Just a set of pipes that would be a cat back where you could cut off the suitcase and clamp on or weld a new H or X pipe from that point forward. (I prefer the sound of an H myself)
Honestly, I know I won't have $1200+ cash laying around while making $500 a month payments on this new ride and the wife's Pilot of $560 a month.

My guess would at that point just getting a bolt up cat back system vs all the labor from cutting to fit a suitcase replacement would probably in the end be cheaper. Borla's touring systems on the 11-14 did a good job of not adding a ton of loudness but improving tone a bit. Obv they are on the higher priced side but I'm sure there will be numerous options as there always are....
