It's not horrible but it's unimaginative for sure.
1) Aston Martin grille area
2) 2006 rear end - which I love but its not really moving anything forward and it's missing the cool tail lights the focus group mentioned
3) Camaro rear window/roof area - WTF?
4) '94 - '98 rear quarter when viewed from the front
5) Scion tc rear quarter windows

Looks like an ugly mashup of a Ford Fusion, Aston Martin, and the new Ferrari F12...all in a very bad way. Don't like it at all. Looks nothing like a Mustang IMO.

A Man Just Needs Some....
If the new mustang looks like an aston Martin I'm gonna be sick! Goddamm Top Gear loving fruitcake engineers! Might as well elect a queen instead of president next.

I don't like the renderings. However, if Carscoop's information is legit, it wouldn't be the first time Ford has adorned the Mustang with a familial nose. While I'll admit the current Mustang looks better than the mid-'90s SN-95, in my opinion, if done correctly, the EVOS / Fusion/Mondeo nose can be made into an aggressive-yet-modern-looking Mustang front end.
1995 Ford Mustang
1995 Ford Aspire
1995 Ford Contour
1995 Ford Thunderbird
1995 Ford Escort
1995 Ford Taurus

As long as its not a direct copy of the Fusion, I mean look at the Aston's.
Good lookin shapes on a coupe.
If it adds a bit of Mustang signature shark slant... you might have a slick lookin front end if executed right.
The rear end I don't expect to be like that at all, unless Ford was completely asleep at the wheel.
Judging from what the guy said about focus group and it being pretty **** good looking...yeah..that render definately ain't it or even close.
As for a Ford Racing EcoBoost.
Maybe its them announcing its available as a crate engine and they are just using a mustang as a potential fit for the kit.
I would NOT expect any announcements anything 2015 related anytime soon.

But yes, give that front end a bit more slant, and Ford can keep some of it's cross-product cues I suppose. I do see a few bits in that design in the rendering that I do like.

Soooo....
It's essentially just a Fusion coupe with copy pasta tail lights from the 60's. ??

**** end is too high, fast back is nether elegant nor aggressive, greenhouse looks too "94, which is a bad step backwards, and the front end would look better leading a nicer execution than this. The Evos concepts were thousands of times sexier, sleeker and more appealing.

'Guys, there's no way this is what the car is going to look like. Undoubtedly, some details are correct but the overall shape is not cohesive enough to be a professional design.
This is at best like a police composite sketch...
On the other hand, if it comes along looking like this, I'll feel very good about keeping my '11 for the duration of the model cycle...or at least until the Barracuda comes out.

It's a rendering guys. Calm down. The proportions have less credibility than a concept. The details are the interesting parts. Things like window shapes, front end details, and body lines might be closer to production than some might think. Again, there's still a lot of time between now and the unveil.
Funny though, if you read the article, they try to make it sound like this was done in similar fashion to the Jalopnik C7. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

My comments were more in direct response to this particular rendering, which depending on where they're getting their info, could be of questionable sourcing at best.
That said, I think I may take a stab at tweaking this rendering... or continuing on the sketches I've been working on. It's always fun to be creative!

Would love to see what you can do with that one, Rich..........give it a go. Maybe stretch the proportions a little.....at the moment it's too short in length and tall to be elegant. That rear does look too square and high, too.
What WILL be interesting will be to take the details, as Overboost mentions, and graft them onto the first decent S550 mules that get spotted (I don't mean the ones based on the S197, either). The mule will give us the proportions and these renderings might have given us some of the details
