I'm a fan of the T-Bird, and I hope it returns as a 2 door! I can live with a 4 seater, but not a 4 door!
Would love to see Ford create a new 2 door RWD Torino......yes, I know. In my dreams!

Nice!
I used to own a 1970 4 door Torino. I always wanted a 2 door!
I've been looking for a nice-cheap 72 2 door Gran Torino, but ever since that **** movie came out, prices on 72's have doubled.
All of a sudden, Torino's are the rage. 20 years ago, you could buy a used Torino for under $1000 dollars-lol

If the Mustang and Falcon do share a platform, the let the Mustang use a shortened version and spin a new Torino off the bigger platform. The Australians could then have a new 2-door Falcon like the XA/XB

As I also noted in a new post, notice this little piece in The Mustang News:
While ambitious and challenging, no doubt, I think this is the future of performance rather than just larding on "More."
In a recent conversation we had with Doug Sparks and Dave Pericak of Team Mustang, they confirmed that cutting 200-300 lbs from the Mustang in the coming years is on the top of their wish-list. This is both to meet new efficiency requirements but to keep performance on the improvement curve. The challenge for them is to find new materials that weigh less without compromising quality and safety while at the same time keeping costs in line. They could make a carbon fiber Mustang body structure that‘s feather light, but the car would cost $250,000. They have their job cut out, best of luck to them.

This is pretty amazing and also is symbolic in that the original Mustang shared its platform with the Falcon. After all these years of starting with the Falcon, Falcon/Torino, then the Pinto, then Fox/Fairmont, and then the D2C/S197 platforms derived the DEW Jaguar S-Type/Lincoln LS cars, the Mustang could come full circle back to the Falcon. Pretty cool, IMO.

New MPG reqs most likely is the big driver - lower weight = increased mileage and allows Ford to keep producing cars they can charge a premium for like V8 Mustangs. I'm certain Ford still wouldn't mind packing on the pounds though, having to meet weight targets on a car like the Mustang has got to be a hair pulling experience.
