I'd say the late 6.2 V8 AMG models were sure as hell German muscle cars...

Maybe the GT500, but definitely not the GT or V6.

Muscle cars will always be considered the cars of the 60's and 70's. Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, are the pony cars. Remember the muscle cars were actually the bigger cars. Roadrunners, Chevelle, Galaxy etc. The Shelby and the Vette are kinda classified as brand flagships. High end domestics. I really hate to agree but that AMG Mercedes and maybe the charger might classify as muscle cars more than a mustang. Although most of the original muscle cars were two door models.

And correct. And the late 50's Galaxy and other big cars from that time where called Muscle cars. They were BIG BLOCK Engine. Mustang started the pony car era and a whole new mentality that SMALL Block V8's could be just as Lethal.

I'm just not really sure what to call the 71-73 mustang though. It was for sure no pony. I guess 71-78 we can just call Ford Mistakes. Even though I secretly have some love for the mustang II.

I don't think the mustang II was that bad looking. My father and grandfather had one. It was just sooooo slow. It was bulletproof though. One of my sisters put one through a cinder block wall and barely scratched the car.

It just appears to me the Mustang is now moving towards becoming more of a sports car than the pony car that it was originally intended for..

On the other hand, I understand why as Ford is now targeting a global market along with hopefully attracting a new generation of Mustang enthusiasts for the next 50+ years..

Some of us old farts may not like it, but it is what it is

There have been a lot of mixed feelings about the Mustang II. Some people really like them. I think for the most part they were a victim of the Oil crunch and Smog era that really just made a lot of cars lack something. I don't think they looked bad H@&& they look more like a Mustang than some other generations.

Actually ! it's the other way around Bob.. The S-197 is approx 1.5" shorter in length than the 71-73 Mustangs and the S550 is approx 3.5" shorter as the 71-73 models were the largest production Mustangs in the car's entire 50 year history..

I don't regret getting a 14 but I'm looking forward to an Ecoboost '17 or '18 in my future!

The new car reminds me a little of my old 65 fastback. I love it!
