One of the last remaining holdouts, huh. Most have turned to the dark side, come on over, you know you want too.

Looking again...

It's probably just a matter of semantics, but techinically the article says the new Mustang will "skip the retro look of the current generation". Although it probably does, that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be retro at all, only it won't sport the '65-'68 retro look of the current gen. Maybe it will sport a new '69-'70 retro look. Grasping at straws, I know...

Regarding sales, I'd say slower Mustang sales are due to the worsening economy as much as anything. The practically brand new Camaro isn't selling that much better...

I agree. But I am biased since my first Mustang was the 1970.

Except for the huge flared fenders of the 5/9 they look the same from the side, too me. Is that what you like about them? Old school flared fenders.

The Mustang faithful and old timers got what we wanted the past few years. But now its time to garner some new fans into the fold. Plus we need more sales.

Depends on which type of muscular look you prefer - decathlete or power lifter. I have a 2012 and love it, but still prefer the 2005-2009 body style

Fenders, rear end, ahrd lines, little more boxy. that's where I am seeing the "muscle" difference.

I'm sure you know that was (thankfully) the Holden 60 concept

You know what? I'm hoping J Mays has made these comments so he can guage reaction from the forums. If that's the case:

MR MAYS, PLEASE DO NOT STRAY TOO FAR FROM THE LOOK THAT HAS WON THE MUSTANG IT'S CURRENT STAR STATUS.

Ford brought lots of people to the Mustang in 2005 with their retro'ish look, and it has been a winner not just for them but Chevy and Dodge. I hope they don't stray too far away...

Evolved sounds better to me....

As its only tin, ford *could* do this...

imagine if for 2013 they offered (optional) 05-09 sheetmetal again with the five litre...

its on a flex line
they have the tooling
cost would be near nothing, just another thing to 'blend' down the line, or even just schedule a block of production to streamline assembly components.

I am afraid I'd have a nervous breakdown as wouldnt be able to get one without giving up one

will never happen. if the 2015 comes out looking like a Edsel, they still wont backtrack, it would be like admitting a mistake to some I guess...I just hope and pray that the 2015 isnt too far from 'whats worked best' styling wise to a lot of folks...65-66 was best selling, 69-70 are most folks 'old favorites', 05 sure got folks downright excited about the mustang again...

I'd love to see the 69 rear windows return, a 'fastback' -ish roofline is a must for me, and three vertical taillights (SAME HEIGHT) might seem 'old school' to some, but its definitely a mustang look. big draggy recessed grille, recessed (also draggy) tail panel (preferably deeper/more pronounced than 05 even) that does not slope outwards making it look puffed out... aerodynamically the 05 front end had to suck about as bad as the 69, but THEY LOOKED COOL
I didnt buy it as a throw away commodity car, or for low wind noise/highest possible mpg, or for maximum horsepower available...

I HAD to have one after SEEING the preproduction concept in 04... to me from 71~93 and 10-up are still neat cars, but even a 71 429scj or boss 351 or '12 boss 302 just didnt have that 'gotta have it' look to me- although those are all incredible cars... I just hope ford dont get too astray here with the mustang again...the 'in between' years to me were great cars, but the look didnt hook me- why I dont know, but with all the hub-ub around the 05 release, I do not think I was in the minority by liking it better than anything I'd seen in decades.
Retro or not, if Ford shocked us and repopped a 69 fastback body as verbatim as the challenger did to its predecessor, guarantee there would not be too many screams yelling 'oh no I hate the front/the back/whatever'.
certain cars looked great years ago, will still look great long after we're all gone... others go the way of commodity cars- just cars to be used up and recycled. the 74 was car of the year- where is it now? from state of the art to state of mundane in a decade is how 99% of cars wind up...not the 57 chevy, not the 69 mustang, not a lot of others too- getting that look 'right' is hard. imagine what they spent just to stamp the stainless on the edsel- yeah, THAT was a good investment

Is that why we both have more than one of the first gen S197s?
Myself I don't HAVE to get rid of one to get another, but I am getting the feeling I won't bother to get the "next gen".

If they did that I would have to buy another one. It would make me 18 again (and my wife would be 16 again- awesome!)
