No ! The S-197 is based off the DEW-98 Platform ie Jaguar S-Type, Lincoln LS and 2002-2003 Thunderbird..

New Pony Car Will be 400 Pounds Lighter?

From Auto World/Edmunds.

New Pony Car Will be 400 Pounds Lighter?

http://www.autoworldnews.com/article...ds-lighter.htm

Edmunds synopsis:

Just the Facts:
  • The redesigned 2015 Ford Mustang will be slightly smaller and several hundred pounds lighter when the car goes on sale next year, Edmunds has learned.
  • The Mustang will shed around 400 pounds in a quest to improve fuel economy, said a source familiar with the Mustang program.
  • The dimensions of the 2015 Mustang will be reduced and the car will use lighter-weight materials as well.

Good find. If they can make a V8 GT with over 400HP, 30MPG highway, and not requiring premium they can take my money.

Maybe with a cylinder deactivation mode like the new C7 Vette ... the 30 MPG part

Pretty big price increase. Hopefully that's not true. But if they're using a lot more aluminum, it could be the case.

This probably wont be well received, but if the price increase pushes well equipped GT to mid $40k range, might as well pony up 10 more grand and get a new vette.

"The convertible will debut later at a separate show. It will not be unveiled with the fastback, the source said."

No. Obviously you've never driven a car with it. With any kind of exhaust modification, it sounds like complete utter ****. Not worth the extra 2-3mpg on the freeway. Just no.

I have also read that the cylinders that shut down ware differently than the ones that stay operating which can cause problems. Don't know how true that is but it makes sense in a way.

Is this the V6 that's going to slot between the 3.7 and 5.0?

Ford Tremor Article

"F-150 Tremor is powered exclusively by Ford’s groundbreaking 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, which features:
  • 365 horsepower at 5,000 rpm on regular fuel
  • 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,500 rpm
  • Twin independent variable camshaft timing for improved performance and fuel economy
  • Up to 90 percent peak torque available from 1,700 rpm to 5,000 rpm "

Sorry if this was posted before. I searched with keyword "Tremor"

I believe the v6 will remain largely the same as todays. However the turbo 4 is said to produce similar power numbers as the Tremor. It would be nice if the turbo 4 was the base model/rental car unit, the V6 Tremor would be the middle child, and the gt will be the angry red-headed step child that everyone loves. Oh and cant forget about the clinically insane "flat-plane crank" gt350 in the rumor mill

I think the jury's still out on which technology is going to prevail. Ford is "all in" with small displacement turbocharged engines, while GM has taken the alternate route of large displacement engines with cylinder deactivation. GM (Chevrolet) has stolen some of Ford's thunder with trucks by being able to say their V-8 truck gets better gas mileage than the Ecoboost V-6, and selling it as being able to have your (V-8) cake and eat it too. I'm not a fan of cylinder deactivation either, but I have to admit that the new LT-1 engine in the Corvette is very impressive. This is going to get interesting.

I hear ya on the technology part. Im one of those guys that appreciates new tech, but in my car id rather keep it simple. Hell id take a good ol 4-barrell 351 under the hood, some open exhaust, and a custom sound set-up for when im cruisin with friends through town.

Turbo charged direct injection engines won that battle long ago. Look at Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes.....

I chuckle when Ford brags about Ecoboost. I've been driving cars with that technology for more than ten years!

I bought a Mustang instead of a new GTI this time because I wanted an NA engine.

no everyone buys a mustang just for speed... most need a good sized trunk and a back seat and the ability to get over bumps and better mpg and the million other things a mustang does better then a vett.

If this report is true the new mustang is going to be lighter than the C7 vette.

It stinks that the V8's price is going to be jacked up though.

Remember the guy last year who said he went to a focus group for the new mustang.
He said one of the questions asked about how much MORE would you be willing to pay for a V8, 6K, 8K.
