Question Key in ignition chime sticks

Has anyone out there seen this issue? I have a 2014 GT Premium built August 2013. Occasionally I have removed the key and then opened the door to find that the car chimes and thinks there still is a key in the ignition. Only way I have found to get it to stop is to reinsert the key and then remove it. Works like a charm and it quits. Have thought about mentioning this to my dealer next time I am in, but it is hard to recreate. Not sure they will believe me. It has only happened about 4 or 5 times in just short of 2 years. Not sure what seems to cause it, works great most of the time.

Anyone else experienced this? Is there a service notice out there for it?

Had an issue like that with my ranger there was a tab that gets out of place or bent that causes the chime there was a TSB on the ranger for repair but I'm not sure if it's the same lock in the mustang. Google may be able to help you out.

Have you tried shooting a lube (graphite?) into the keyhole? Maybe even something like WD-40. Only use a small amount.

You should definitely address this with your dealer, shaneyusa. Let me know if you want me to escalate this.

Well it finally got to the point it was getting annoying. Car only has about 9500 miles on it and is within a little over a week of being on the road 2 years. The mysterious phantom chime has been occurring more frequently. I even had had it show up when getting into the car. Here is what happened. Returned home and pulled into the garage. I turned off the car and removed the key. Opened the door to get out and all was as it should be, no key in the ignition warning chime. Got out and left the car to go in the house. A few hours later I realized I had left my computer bag in the trunk of the car. When I opened the door to hit the trunk release there it was. Chime, chime, chime. That blasted chime was going off. First thought wow am I getting senile. I had to do a double check to make sure I hadn't left the key in the ignition. Nope nothing there. Not a big thing, but this was starting to get to me.

I finally took it in and got it looked at. Dealer shop checked it out. Turned out my ignition switch was faulty. Dealer was great, swapped it out in a couple of hours and we were on our way. It has only been over night so can't really know if it is resolved. But I will report back if the phantom chime returns.
