Intermittent power loss on 12 GT
Intermittent power loss on 12 GT
I've been noticing an intermittent power loss on my 2012 GT ever since I got the car. At first, I just thought it was my less than stellar driving technique, but now that I'm fully used to the car, it still shows up sometimes once a week, sometimes every couple days. Last night, I did a full throttle acceleration run, and it wouldn't even chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift. I tried several more after that with the same results. When it feels right, I can get a chirp on 2-3 too. The car feels more like 250HP than 400.
I always run premium 93 octane fuel from the same station and the same pump even. When I've felt the power loss before, I tried 96 octane Shell V-power, but it didn't seem to make a difference. I can't figure out what this could be. The car runs fine otherwise. It feels like the timing is being retarded like it would do with really bad fuel, but even on 87 it should still be plenty fast. It just doesn't have the punch it should have.
Anybody got any ideas what I could look for to try to narrow this down? I can just see the glazed looks from the service department when I tell them "it's not fast enough sometimes." LOL To anybody not used to a 5.0, I'm sure it still feels plenty fast, so I doubt the dealer will do anything until something is hard failed.

I'd explain everything to your local Ford service manageryou just posted here. At the very least, it's been documented with Ford. Keep your service record paperwork for future possible returns on the same fault.
If there's a problem, they should be able to find it. That's what warranty's are all about! Use it.

It should be identifiable on a dyno; I don't know if that's an option for you, but I would take it to the dealer first. If they tell you it can't be duplicated, keep a log of times it occurs, conditions (temp, wet/dry, time of day, frequency, duration), etc. Keep records of your trips to the dealership. Also, most importantly, get Deysha involved if your dealership balks.
I had something similiar on my 2010. Took it to the dealer a couple times to no avail. Then someone told me my reverse lights were on. Got to watching it and every time I experienced the power loss the reverse lights were on. Took it back to dealer and turned out to be a faulty reverse sensor on the tranny. I guess it confused the computer thinking it was in reverse. Replaced and no problems since.

I recommend you make an appointment with your dealer and go on a test drive with the tech, so you can show them what you’re experiencing. Then, you can PM me back with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can escalate it to the Customer Service Manager for your area.

I never use 87. It had 87 in it when I picked it up from the dealer, and it wasn't nearly as slow as it is when it has this intermittent issue. The reverse switch problem can't be what's wrong with mine since I have reverse sensors and backup cam. It would be pretty obvious if the car thought it was in reverse.
I'm thinking it's a stability control issue. I turned it totally off, and the power seemed to be back to normal. It's not that the car is spinning or anything. The stability control just seems way over-aggressive sometimes. Other times, it will let the tires chirp and allow some wheel spin even in normal mode and allow tons of spin and tail wag in sport mode. Next time it seems sluggish, I'll try turning off the ESP again and see if I can confirm it. I think I read somewhere about somebody else having a bad sensor causing a similar problem.
