Brembo Lug Nut Key

I just took my 2012 GT with Brembos in for service.

The service department called to let me know that they were unable to rotate the tires because they didn't have the key for the lug nuts. I've never taken anything out of the car, so if I had one, it should be there.

They put a call into my salesman, but he's out of the office until Thursday.

Where is the lug nut key supposed to be in this car?

They put mine in the glove.

Mine was in the center console cubby. They should have a master set.

See, that's what I would've thought.

Check under the spare tire, with the lug wrench. They sometimes attach the key to the lug wrench so you will have it when needed.

Don't quote me on that though.

Here at Acura, we have our own master sets. We use the same type of McGard wheel locks.

i think this is true for euros and Japanese car makers --
we have a key set for all Bimmers that is factory supplied ...

i would bet against Ford on this one, only because they don't supply them on a regular basis.

our PDI guy used to install them on every car sold .... but with the economy it now supplied by request only.

I'm sure they will be able to find the lock or the lock code and order you a new one.

No spare with the Brembo set. They mentioned something about an MDAR or MGAR card that should be with my car. I don't remember seeing that.

It's McGard and there should have been a card with a serial number on it. You mail this to McGard, with whatever fee they are charging now, and they will send you a new key. Without the serial number, I believe you are pretty much out of luck in getting a replacement key.

I know the dealer can get these off, as we had locks on a Jeep in Texas, and the dealer could not find the key, so they removed the locks and then replaced them with new ones, at no cost, all in about three hours which included service and tire rotation.

Dealer did me right and just tossed the entire lock-lug package in the trunk. Key and four lock lugs in a bag. I put them on myself and now I have four extra factory lug nuts should I ever lose or damage one. I believe there was a card in bag with the key number. Too lazy to go down and dig it out to see.

The way to remove the lock lugs without a key is hammer an impact socket on the lock lug. This isn't good for either but it's usually the lock lug that takes the damage.

I got home last night and looked through the car with a friend. We found the sealed lug nut package with the tire inflation kit in the trunk.

It was in a white bag, instructing the dealer what's inside. I'm a little disappointed since I know they went through the trunk.

Thanks for your help, all.

That's odd. the sealed white bag has the key and lock-lugs in it. If the lock lugs are on the wheels... then something is still off. Unless of course the dealer put the lock lugs on and then resealed the bag with the regular lugs.
Make sure the key fits the lock lugs on the wheels

It did. I thought that was odd too since the white bag was still originally sealed.

Mine didn't come with locking lug nuts which I thought was odd. Did the dealership steal them?

They come with the HID security package. Mine were in the trunk and are now in the dump.
