another point as well the 5.0s run great its big block type power and we all love it, but i truly believe the 4.6 was the better motor, My first gt was a 09. It did not use a drop. nobodys did . you never hear any 5.7 gt500 owners having consumption issues eitheir. The 5.0 is a powerhouse but is it dependable . Time will tell. By the way nice bullitt man

Ill take a lil break-in for 120+ more hp. Mine hasn't used any in the 3.2k miles since my first oil change. Knock on wood! I do get the "normal" blow-by in my catch can. Notice I say "lil", using 1 quart per 500-1k is pretty rough.

I've been following this tread, and been checking my 2014 5.0 Track Pack weekly. After 1500 miles it seems to not have used a drop of Oil. I check after I pull into my garage after coming home from work. Engine is warm to say the least.

It's always showing both dots covered with oil. I think there is some truth to claims that driving your car hard helps break it in, and seal the rings properly. I've been pushing it to 7000 rpm daily. Since week 1. Car seems to LOVE it. Don't get me wrong. I reach 6th gear by 40mph usually. But I find at east one opportunity per day to let it rev to redline in one or 2 gears I love how quickly the Tachometer goes from 4500 to 7000 rpm with the 3.73 gears!

Pushing it seems to be the way to go. I'm about 1000 miles into my last oil change and will be checking it this weekend to see how it's holding up. Clean oil is hard to read so I tend to wait a while after a change. Usage has decreased, so hopefully the trend continues.

Update here too - I'd mentioned earlier I changed my oil at 400 miles and at ~2000 I'd noticed about 1/2 quart consumption. I'm at 3600 miles now (same oil) and there has been zero consumption over the past 1600 miles.

I've had some highway cruising and some high RPM, fast driving mixed in too - I'd say that driving very hard has certainly not hurt oil consumption... I'm pleased so far I have none

Now if the dealership would acknowledge that at least one wheel is (and has been since I picked up the car) out of balance or has a faulty tire that causes vibration I would be happy... "It's the road" is a pretty crappy excuse for a steering wheel shaking at 70mph on every road... but I digress

They blamed my vibration on my hide-a-way license plate holder! I finally got a chance to remove last Friday. I've only had two short highway runs. So far, they may be about 90% right.

But it's been on there since I took it home. Not sure why it would suddenly be a problem. They say it was loose, but I found it pretty tight when I tried to take it off.

Not to get off topic but a suggestion to find someone with a Hunter 9700 that knows how to use it properly and get your wheels and tires rechecked. http://www.gsp9700.com/

Last off topic post I promise

I have a tire place that does excellent work nearby I just refuse to pay for what ford should be fixing. A $35k car should at least have balanced wheels... I am trying a new dealership tomorrow. I also have a could friends with extra mustang wheels that I may end up borrowing to identify exactly which wheel is the problem and then just bring that wheel separately to the dealership and get it remounted and balanced.

Hi dmichels,

Let’s get this escalated. PM me with your dealer, full name, VIN, mileage, and best daytime number. Also, make another appointment with them.

I'll PM you when I get another appointment set up. Doing a little testing with an alternate wheel to self diagnose first. Then I'll go back with the one bad wheel

Thanks!

My TP gets hammered several times weekly. That's one reason why I bought it. Coming up on the first 3k oil change. The factory fill is still showing level full. Seems the only oil it loses is the oil I wipe off the stick when I check it. I'm completely pleased with the 5.0.

Almost 2K miles into this oil change and so far the oil level is still above the hash marks. Looks like the usage is finally under control!

Yeah, it seems to be after the 800 highway miles is when it all took a turn for the better.

Almost time to put it away for the winter. I dread driving the Trailblazer but just put brakes, wheel bearings, new brake lines and power steering lines into it. Hopefully no more break downs with it!

I'm up to about 4000 miles on my current oil - still zero consumption over the past 2000 or so miles. Good to see others seem to be having the same experiences.

I'll drive my mustang through parts of the winter here... just on the dry sunny days though. Jeep (with heated seats ) will get the rest of winter duty!
