I'll be putting on 800+ miles next week for vacation. Mostly highway driving. Oil change time when I return so i'll be curious to see how low the oil goes with 800 miles of this type of driving.
Kick it in the pants and blow the carbon out of that thang!

No problems with my 13 5.0. Check the oil frequently and getting ready to do my first oil change at 5K miles.

I had the dealer top off the oil before my vacation trip. They put in 12.4 more ounces. That was last Friday. Monday I left for my trip and returned on Thursday. I put on over 800 miles round trip, with most of it being highway. Just checked the oil and it's still topped off to where it was before the trip. I expected some usage, but if there was it's not measurable.

Before the consumption test I was putting in about a quart every 2,000 miles. Since the test started, it's been under a quart for almost 5,000 miles.

Finally getting better. Hopefully this trend continues.

Oil change on Monday. Dealer is keeping it overnight to address a high speed vibration, and now i'm noticing a creaking noise in the front end, but only when coming up the driveway which is dirt and not very smooth or level.

Seems kind of odd, but others have reported similar improvement.

Probably the LCA creak. There's a TSB that includes replacement parts.

I hope it is an improvment. Maybe the two 8 hour highway runs is what it needed?

That's what I was thinking, but I only hear it coming up the bumpy driveway. I'll have to research it a bit here to see if it's the same or if I can re-create it on the road. Either way i'll have the dealer check it out.

Been monitoring my car for oil consumption - it seemed to drink ~1/2 quart over 1500 miles, but after some hard driving recently and another 800 mile trip, it didn't seem to drink an ounce.

Those who drive really hard - does that seem to consume more or the same as daily driving?

How has it been since your trip? I just got back yesterday so I have no after trip data yet.

I got back a couple days ago. Have taken the car to work the past 2 days as well, no apparent issue.

I'll check the oil in the morning to see how it is after a night of rest

You won't notice anything that quick. I thought it had been a few weeks for you. I guess i'll just have to wait and see over the next 1000 miles or so.

Where in CT are you?

My 2012 GT 5.0 used a quart during the first 4,000 miles. I had the oil changed and drove it another 4,000. It was only about a half quart low at that point. I currently have a little over 11K miles on it, and the dipstick shows the same level it did when I last had it changed. I think it just takes a bit for it to decide it doesn't really like drinking oil so much.

However, we are fortunate that we have a dipstick. Before trading it in on this Mustang, I bought a new 2011 BMW 335i. Apparently, BMW doesn't think we're smart enough to know how to use a dipstick because those cars don't have one. I'm 64 years old and grew up with the Muscle Cars of the 60s. A dipstick is indispensable in my opinion.

And yes, I love the GT way more than I liked the BMW. It was a great car, it just wasn't the car for me. Plus the seats are much more comfy in the GT. And it was $25K less expensive. Win-win-win.

Well I have about 2800 miles since my last oil change now with a good amount of "aggressive" driving... From 1500 miles to 2800 I noticed no consumption at all. Miles will go on slowly for he next couple weeks tho

I'm in Mass on the MA/CT/RI line. I like cruising around the back roads of NE CT and have seen a few grabber blues in my travels. Thought maybe one could have been you.

Could be - there aren't too many GB GT's with track package around!

Our '11 GT/CS M6 is great. I keep telling everyone....aim for 9 mpg and you and your car will be in good shape. 18,000 miles and the oil consumption stopped after the first oil change or so. Never was a big issue. Was just talking with my salesman today and he was telling the other salesman there how I was the first he had seen smoke the tires off the lot the day we bought the '11. Still not babying it and it loves the treatment.

i had a 12 model and it drank oil a quart every 800 miles- and Ford just abandoned me, I begged for help ,,it was a mess ,,I have a 13 now and at 800 miles it droppd half a quart. I changed to mobile 1 and it stopped . I have 2900 miles on it now and does not use a drop. The ford oil is junk. There is a reason it looks nasty because it is. I read about others switching oil and thought id try it. It will stop the consumption. Another tip run it hard, literally . All the garbage you hear about compression breaking is balogney. Pull it beside a Vette- grab 3rd and and push gas to the floor. For a couple thoulsand miles run it like you stole it. thats how i stopped mine. If you want you can run a FL820 filter too. I like the bigger filter., It fits just fine.

That's a heap of bs. It was your engine - as has been reported by several 5.0's - not Motorcraft 5w-20 semi-synth oil.
I'm at 22k, redline it every time I drive it. On 2 lane twisty's I often hang in the same gear in the power band between tight corners. On off, on off. I have NEVER used even a 1/2 qt in 5000 miles by oil change time.
