2010 Mustang Gt 3.73 sound from Rear
2010 Mustang Gt 3.73 sound from Rear
Just took my 2010 GT to dealer, noise from rear end (rubbing) too loud to bear. Dealer reports problem may be in pinion. 75k miles, no racing, anybody have same issue? Also getting Air vent valve r/r due to clacking. Had premium plan added when purchased, just within warranty
. Any others out there with similar problems?

Just an FYI, I am having the EXACT same issue on my 12 GT.
Original dealer replaced everything in the Differential and noise was still there and they said it was normal.
I took it to a second dealer and they said the noise is not normal. Technician replaced the driver side axle because when they had the car up in the air "You could hear the noise plain as day coming from that side of the vehicle". Technician replaced the axle because the technician said the axle was out of round and appeared to be a manufacturing defect (from the factory). Once they put everything back together, the noise returned but this time coming from the Differential itself. Technician says the original dealer didn't put enough shims back in and ovefr tightened the pinion bearing. Technician says the pinion bearing is worn out and so are the races. He checked the pinion with a micrometer and that appears to be fine.
I will update this thread when I get my car back.

My car is doing this. I put mine in our shop the rear pinion needs to be replaced but my tech said the noise is most likely coming from the bearings. It's a power train issue do should be covered under you 60k powertrain warranty.
I did a quick test drive with the tech and it sounds like the carrier barring. My car has 60,100 miles on it so I am out of warranty. Just my luck!!! I going through the hoops to get fixed under the extended warranty.
wow that's disappointing bud. Who is your third party warranty through?
Their name is something like Warranty One or something like that. I bought my car from out of town. So I just used the service the Dodge dealer I got it from. They are making me jump through a ton of hoops to get the fix covered.
Mine went into the shop Saturday. I waiting for them to do all the junk they have to do to so my extended warranty company will give me a rental. Not sure when I will get the car back.
I got the car back and I am told there is no noise coming from the rear end. They are telling me I have flat spots on my tires and that could be the cause. I guess I need new tires now. Paint me skeptical but I will see what happens when I get a new set of shoes.
I had a vehicle years ago that had a severe whining noise from the rear....all it was was a fluid change. Personally I will have my rear end fluid changed at 30K especially with the 3.73 rear, more heat means faster break down of the gear fluid.
