Valentine without remote display = ???

Educate me. I've never had a detector but am going to get one soon. Why the need for the remote display? Is it just because it's in your line of sight or other reasons? Guys that have one, does it have it's own power power cord or feed off the detector?

I have a V1 without the conceal. I think the previous poster hit it. I have never been pulled over. The V1 is a jewel.

That said, I wish I had the conceal option.

The conceal display has its own connection to either the 12 v mount for the cig lighter or power outlet, or to the junction box that you use when you hardwire. Both r available from v1. The issue is though that you still have to mount the v1 up high so it can pick up a signal. All the concealed display does is turn off the main unit display, routing it to the concealed unit instead. IMO more trouble than it's worth. I just hardwire the v1 to a spot behind the drivers visor. If you want to conceal the display, just drop the visor down slightly. Nobody behind you will see it, but you'll still be able see the display. I hardwired from the passenger kick panel fuse box, third fuse from the top right (10 amp), ran the phone cord up via the a pillar, tucked in the headliner, behind the mirror, stopped behind the divers visor. Very easy to do. If you take your RD out you can just tuck the phone up into the edge of the headliner.

I like the remote display. I mount the V1 up high in front of my mirror so it is difficult to see and difficult to hit the mute button. The remote display has a mute button and is mounted in my Edge in the lower right corner of the dash display area so it can not be seen by a car following me.

I use the new Passport with GPS on my Mustang. It sits on at the windshield on the dash and has a mute button on the cigarette lighter plug which works pretty well. The unit remembers over time the location of false signals like automatic door openers and such. It also displays your speed via GPS the moment the radar signal is detected.

My reasoning for using the concealed display is that I can glance at the direction, radar band, and my speedometer all in one glance, rather then looking int to spots.

It pulls power from the direct wire power adapter, which is used when you hardwire your radar. Otherwise, if you are using the 12v socket, there is an aux port that you will use to draw power.

Some pics of my setup (hard wired)
